  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Still changing...

What we need is a menu for the nighttime?

What we need is a menu for the nighttime?

Sorry for those who thought this was going to be a technical post, but real development takes place late at night and we the RED USER's need to know what type of pizza or Chinese food or preferably healthy late night snacks to have delivered to the Red Team.

If we really want to see these products as soon as possible, we need to put our money where their minds are.

Rosco

P.S. I'm so old that I remember when six apricot pies got us batch capturing in Radius Edit.

P.P.S. Who was that shooting the race at Fontana yesterday?

Blimey...those are worse hours than a Nike sweatshop

Cool heat vent

Cool heat vent

That heat vent on the top might allow for some extra FPS due to better cooling. I like how you put Caution Hot Surface to let us know or for a hint. Otherwise some might have thought it was an onboard mic.

My question is, is the Scarlet body now made of plastic (not that it was specified before) to bring down costs? Just curious.

Thanks for the pics

also is having the viewfinder inline with the sensor so that you can align the sensor plane in order to correct for back focus, etc. Like a built in LensAlignPro for example.

Perhaps for better reasons (maybe you don't to talk about) like for better lens accommodation....... :)?

Wow, Jarred. Did you take those pictures? Absolutely beautiful, especially that second one!

Actually, I'm betting it was Jim who clicked the Render button.

One last one for the night...

wow.
this really looks like manga mecha-design.
Gundam cam? :matrix:

Don't get me wrong, this camera LOOKS awesome - completely drool worthy, but I'm going to be a pain again and ask for a more ergonomic handle. If you imagine hand-holding this sucker for a couple of hours shooting motion you see that a handle at an angle much closer to horizontal is more comfortable. Every other cam manufacturer does this for a reason. The LCD on top of the handle would then be at a better angle to see it as well.

Good to see the grill under the lens which i assume is a stereo mic.

One last thing... is that mini-jack (3.5mm) mic input still there on the body? It's great for minimalist doco shooters and the like to attach a decent mic without needing a significantly bigger camera. A cold shoe on top would also help...

Keep teasing us with renders!

Dude, you start with a brick. Then you make it ribbed for her pleasure. Then you add some pointy bits to snag on things. Then you render it in deep shadows against a black background. End of process. ;-)

Super sweet!! it just gets better and better!

I second...or third...fourth etc...for those that like to use their left eye for monitoring...please keep it in mind.

Having said that though it would feel weird as I have always used a camera operating on the left side...usually can extend the EVF out slightly to reach my left eye. can't imagine operating on the right side of it, but might be easier.

Thanks RED. Nice to see something new.

The curved vent bump on the top sort of reduces the real estate for mounting things. The small LCD doesn't look as though it will be top-mountable anymore.

How about a rotating handle like the EX1?

Some sound input on the basic camera body (without attaching the big In-Out module) would be very useful.. even if it was only for guide audio to make syncing easy.

Great work, guys.

Just remember... we only post two generations ago. If someone is going to "borrow" what we are doing, they will always be two steps behind.

Jim

I'm totally hoping two generations ahead feature a rotating handle. With an optional strap over it. :-)

Jim, I'm looking at that new EVF render and I can't help wondering: the forward looking hole and flared area.... would that by any chance be your solution to those people requesting an optical viewfinder?

In other words, a forward looking mini camera or even optical prism/rangefinder so that you can frame without main camera power?

And if not, feel free to take the idea and make just that! If optical allow it to open and close such that when closed the EVF shows and when flipped open you can see through the optical path.

Cheers for the renders!

Paul

Boy how much more clear does RED need to state that they are not going to do an optical finder? The cost would be astronomically more money.

For the cost of the cameras, I am amazed how much you already get for your money. It actually doesn't seem feasible to make a camera like this for the cost they are selling it for. Never mind making a profit. (I guess the idea is to make a profit 5+ years in after initial delivery)

When will amazing be good enough?

Hey, I'm amazed. It's good enough. I just want that "initial" delivery.

Is this the "forward looking hole and flared area" you were talking about? If so a short visit to photoshop revealed it to be the viewfinder connector. which makes sense.

But really with the improvements in viewfinder and small panel LCDs it's not as necessary to have an optical viewfinder. Besides the prism or flip mirror needed for an optical viewfinder is one more surface to collect contaminants on that will degrade your image quality. I've also found what I see through an optical viewfinders is somewhat deceiving as to what in the end is captured by the sensor (also true for film), for this reason I prefer a direct feed from the sensor, then I know what is being recorded.
