  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sticks and head

You probably won't be able to get a Sachtler or Oconnor of appropriate capacity for 3K, but there's a couple of Libec and Cartoni heads in the 25-30lb range that might do. You'd be cutting it a bit close on weight, but it should work. I would assume that you're going as bare bones as possible on the Red One, as some of those accessories add to the weight really quickly.

Give Abel Cine Tech a call, they'll be able to make some recommendations.

Thanks, will do. What about sticks? I could probably rent an O'connor for the "heavier" Rig shoots.

Hey Jon

I'm selling my Ronford Baker fluid head setup that I've been using with my Red for the past almost 3 years. It's awesome and heavy duty. Supports up to 35lb but I've had more on there before.

Selling for $2,800 which comes with the following

Medium Duty Standard Legs
Medium Duty Baby Legs
Hi-HAT
Ronford Baker F4 Fluid Head
Quick Release Plate
Tie Down
Spreader
3 Cases

Great deal. Check it out in the buyers section or PM if you're interested

Jon, I'd definitely check out used heavier iron like Rick's deal. You should be able to find something like that or a used Sachtler or Miller. Miller is "under rated" in terms of price to performance, IMHO. And older Ronford and Cartoni as well.

Better that than trying to buy Libec or some of the lighter offerings from Cartoni, I think. They may get you buy, but probably won't hold up under heavy or even regular use for very long, especially if fully loaded.

Cartoni 20s, while a heavy head (I think around 18 pounds), is really great and can sometimes be found in your price range with decent sticks.

In my experience, in general, better to underload to half to three-quarters, than to load to max rating in terms of performance and longevity. Good luck.

Becareful with buying a lot of used older fluid heads, many of them from multiple manufacturers were never meant to be serviced or have had parts discontinued, I would put into heavy consideration local service availability when picking out a fluid head.

Well the compression looks better than a 7d
