  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Steven Soderbergh...

Finally was able to check out CHE on DVD last week (no US Blu Ray release yet). Part I was great. Part II dragged a little but still decent. As for the Red footage, the first 10 minutes of Part I really showed that they were just getting used to the camera but about 15-20 minutes in I forgot I was looking for ways to "see" the video quality of Red and just followed the excellent storytelling abilities of SS. It appeared to me that most of their learning curve was corrected by the end of Part I. Knowing gets a C+ for cinema quality in my opinion CHE part I gets a B- and Part II gets a B. Red.com lists Night at the Museum 2 as shot on Red but I haven't seen that yet. Can't wait for Eli...

The B/W and dinner scenes in part one was 16mm.

Also, shooting order was not the same as running order.

Ahh. Did not know the B&W/dinner scenes were 16mm! Makes sense after seeing it though. Then the only thing I can say about the Red One footage was the noise in the first 15-20 minutes of the film, especially in low light or shaded areas. This is probably attributed to the learning curve using the beta cams as I stated earlier. Phenomenal footage after that. I hope they release this one on blu ray.

Apart from most of what's been said in this thread, you know what I really admire about Soderbergh? his politics, for want of a better word. The guy cares. His social commentaries - and they are many- are pitch perfect, and seem to me to be in harmony with everything that is just. I'd buy the man a pint.

cheers for sharing!
this truly made my day and hopefully will be read by lots of people out there as a fountain of inspiration.

Che DVD in the US

It looks like Che is recieving the Criterion treatment. Knowing them they will have some cool behind the scenes stuff, possibly some commentaries. Listening to Soderbergh talk about one of his movies in a comentary can be a pretty cool thing, I'm sure he would talk about the RED, as he did shoot it.

I just saw Part 1 and was floored!!! I am in awe of the cinematography as well as the project as a whole!!! The images are Incredible and made me proud to be a RED disciple!!! Despite the diversity (Puerto Rican, Venezuelan, Mexican, Spanish, Cuban) of the cast it was incredible to hear the accuracy in most of the dialect. Benicio nailed the Argentinean and even morphed into a Cuban which was phenomenal. Benicio rocked it!!!

I am withholding any political and/or historical critique until I see part 2. As you guys can imagine it would be illegal to view a glamorization of Ché in Miami!!!

Incredible Job to Soderbergh and my hats off to Jannard and the whole Red Team!!! You guys have "revolutionized" the game!!!

Some interesting info on Moneyball:

Gawker - Sony Knew What Soderbergh Was Up to on Moneyball Script - moneyball
Yesterday we posted Sony's take on why Moneyball, the Soderbergh/Pitt film based on Michael Lewis' book, died five days before shooting was to start. Now someone close to the project has provided us with a different version of events.

CHE movies dual DVD set is already out about a week ago.

"We have what we have and that is plenty enough (for today) to do something meaningful. If you give me more, I'll do more. But I have enough now"
That's it! THE way of living.

Looks like SS isn't doing so well these days, poor dude. Also some strong words on what production on Che was like http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/jul/14/steven-soderbergh

The pic of him in front of Red is one I hadnt seen before

Everyone has their down moments. Doubt keeps us realistic, just like I said in another thread talking about directors. SS is a talent and I'm sure he will get re-energized here soon. Having a movie not recoup is cost will always take the wind out of your sails.
