Okay, I feel a little silly asking this one.

In fact, it's so simple, I couldn't find any detailed steps on it when searching the manual or the forum.

So I copy the downloaded firmware file (redone.su) to a compact flash and stick it in my redone. I go to the update software but it tells me that there is no software on the system. So I tried a usb stick. Same thing. Have I gone senile? (don't answer that.)

Yeah, okay, I haven't done this myself in a long time. But I wanted to go ahead and try out this beta 30. and I'm at home without my usual helpful friends.

thanks for the hand holding. (and not laughing.)

There should be a text file in the zip you download describing thr process, but to save you the hassle the .su file must be in a folder named "upgrade".

you have to have the folder "upgrade" on the cf card and the redone.su in the folder.

with the camera off

put that card in the camera.

powerup with it in the camera

it will ask if you want to upgrade.

once it is done, you need to black shade...

the instructions are on the "readme" file...

from readme file...

For Mysterium sensor based cameras, format a CF card using Build 20 or 21.

* Connect the CF card to your P.C or Macintosh via a CF card reader.

* Copy the folder called " upgrade " onto the CF card.

* Unmount the CF card from your computer (drag to the trash can).

* Ensure your camera is powered down.

* Insert the CF card into the CF card slot of your RED-ONE camera.

* Power up the camera.

* After booting up, the camera rear status display will report " New Firmware " and the RED-EVF or RED-LCD will report "A software update is available for your system"

* Press the joystick to confirm, and the rear status display will report " Upgrading "

* During the upgrade process, a blue progress bar will be visible on the RED-EVF or RED-LCD. This bar will continue for the duration of the upgrade, which is approximately five minutes.

* At the end of the upgrade process, the rear status display will report "O.K. Cycle Power" The RED-LCD or RED-LCD will report " Upgrade complete. Power cycle the camera to continue. "

* Power down the camera, wait five seconds, then power up the camera.

* Verify that the camera rear status display and or monitors report back -

PIN (value specific to camera) Build 30 Version 30.3.1

* Installation is now complete.

Note: After the firmware upgrade, it is mandatory that you re-format a CF card and perform a BLACK SHADING calibration. At the end of Black Shading remember to power cycle the camera. Operation without performing a BLACK SHADING calibration after firmware updates or downgrades usually creates significant color errors.

how can you have posted 1500+ times on this forum and not know this?

thanks! i had the upgrade folder with the firmware file, but i was using the update software button in the maintenance menu. (i wonder what that is if it doesn't update firmware?)

anyway, the power down/up did the trick.

thanks!

**for the record, the instructions where in the manual. a big duh on my part.
