I found out today that the Canon mounts will be a few months away bummer.

Since I am ready to order my camera now and have access to full set of Canon EF L S zooms and primes I am disappointed.

Option what would Red Owners suggest as a lens to buy with the camera until the Canon mounts are out? I will keep using my broadcast camera while I learn the Red so a good lens for handheld and some tripod work to dial in my workflow and be ready when the Canon mounts are out? Nikon mount and a Nikon lens? Or a 18-50 Red? Others?

Advice please

From my understanding you need a Canon still camera to make it work. Or am I totally off? It that is the case hand held would be a challenge.

By the way the Helmet Cam went for asking price plus shipping.

the nikon mount with an older nikon manual focus lens off ebay is a good bet. And when you're done, you can probably resell both for a a minor loss.

There is a lot of information about the merits of andy's system versus the birger system, I'd really advise you roll your sleeves up and get that research done. They both have their merits.

Get Andy's dumb mount and use Nikon primes or zooms with N>C adaptors to be found on ebay for less than $20 each.
Their 17-35mm f2.8 is awesome.

Thanks Max I am looking into the Nikon mount as that is a very cost effective option for now.

Doing all I can to find out more about Andy's system and the Birger. Andy offers a lot more information then Birger on where he is and what he will offer.

After checking the dump mount does need a Canon still camera to set the iris. That won't work for me. Andy's standard will be out soon but as posted that could be months. At least that will have IS, focus, and iris.

be careful with the cheaper canon to nikon adapters, even some of the $100 ones have some play in them, which can make focusing a little tricky right at the top as the adapter rotates a little bit. People sell used nikon mounts on this forum fairly often.

i don't think it will be months. currently the eta is a few weeks.

by the way, i'm going to sell my nikon dumb mount for $400. if anyone is interested. i'm in LA and would prefer not to have to deal with shipping, etc. i don't want to send the mount and then hope to get paid later. haha. (and, i imagine, vice versa)
