  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Star Wars 1-6, in 3D!!

I though they said there weren't enough funds to HD remaster the original theatrical copies......? :P

I thought I had read an article in the Empire a few months back which said that LucasArts would "love" to do an HD remaster of the originals for the fans but that that would be too expensive...

On the other hand I heard a rumor once that he had the original theatrical copies destroyed because the new and "better" versions were how he envisioned the films should have been in the first place.

Brad, but that clip @ 0:27 was MADE for 3D realization:)

(Now I am glad I never saw that scene, and regret that it is now in my mind:( )

No that was another one of those, "I had to cut the scene back then because the tech made it look goofy" sorta like Jabba in A New Hope.
Not that this scene doesn't look any less goofy now, but that isn't the techs fault it's just a goofy scene.

It's only like 2 mins though on dvd it's easy enough to skip, in the theaters it's just an opportunity to step out of the theater for buying snacks, taking a leak.

On a side note, is the scene in which a stormtrooper hits his head on an opening door still in A new hope? I love that part.... :)

I hate that scene so much. Why would you make a whole new musical number? Why does it sound so much like earth music now. The original music was awesome and it sounded like outer space music.

Don't even get me started on how he changed the Ewok song at the end.

I think the scene slows down the movie but george's explanation is that he wanted a big musical number there.

I used to have problems with the new music at the end but it's really grown on me since then and I actually prefer it now.

Well I must say that I find it very strange that films get released multiple times this way. And not just 1 directors cut or something.

For example Avatar:

* 1 The "regular" 3d version in cinema's
* 2 The "regular" 2d version on Blu-Ray
* 3 The "Special Edition" in 3d in cinema's
* 4 The "Special Edition" in 2d on Blu-Ray
* 5+6 The "Regular" and "Special" version in 3d on Blu-Ray

That really smells like marketing crap.... Or am I mistaken?

I don't really count having the 2d, 3d versions as marketing because some people just don't like seeing a 3d film but yeah it's marketing.

But they're delaying releasing the 3d Blu-ray till 2011, and that's what I don't like about it. They got a 3d version ready, but they're delaying it so people buy the 2d version now and the 3d one next year.

I think you have your dates mixed up, the 2D blu-ray is the one being delayed till 2011 because it's not finished yet.
The article says the 3D version starts with Phantom Menace and hits theaters in 2012 which doesn't surprise me because they have to convert the films and do a really good job of it.

Well if they don't cut corners every were and do a fast and dirty remapping to save money, but do it right, even S3D conversions can look good, never will they have the Depth Budget of an originally Intended and S3D shot Picture, but nonetheless can be done in a good way, will see which way this will go.

It takes crappy S3D Conversions to give S3D hell when it can really be a great re-descovered media.

If it lets yet another generation discover SciFi, or one odd branch thereof, I don't see the harm in it. I'll still have my trusty flat copies. Nobody is forcing me to watch the 3D version.
