  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Star Trek 12......on film

Post conversion is the worst news I've heard all day. At least now I know I won't need to spend the extra money on a 3D ticket...

Good riddance I say... it aint real 3d anyway until you can actually bend your head and see behind the person on screen.

Disappointing... Maybe he do not have enough budget to shoot double amount of film stock?

Eh, you never know. There's a lot of different ways to do 3D. Don't forget half of Transformers 3 was converted, and it made $1.1 billion; Alice in Wonderland was converted, and it made about the same. Disney is dimensionalizing a lot of their older animated classics (like Lion King, about to come out), and they're doing very well.

So much depends on how the film is shot, how the scenes are composed, and if the camera moves and sets were deliberately designed with 3D in mind. They did this very well for Men in Black 3 (now being converted), and I think at least technically, the film will do very well next year.

I agree that actually shooting live action 3D with a 3D rig is preferable, but with effects-heavy films, I think dimensionalizing can work, provided they throw tons of time and money at it. ($200,000 per minute, by some estimates.)

Haha - my friend and I were actually talking not long ago about how he'd do lens flares with a 3d rig. I guess now we have our answer.

That is precisely why I think he isn't shooting 3D. He also uses fairly narrow DoF (notorious for making a painful 3D experience), coupled with a certain camera shake and fast whip pans that might be hard to reproduce with a heavier rig.
