  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Stanley on the run

I'm seeing a subtle creaminess to the image.

Heaps of subtlety in the original high res versions, with a lot of it being lost in these thumbnail-like web versions.

The party seems to be over, but here's some left-overs. Didn't have time to post them yesterday.

Party is not over.
It has only just begun...

Had my good friend Celestina pop over.
She was a true and wholeheartedly Epic fan. And we have travelled together with Epic and backpacks in China and other places.

Today, she was handed the Epic to shoot selfies... :)

Had to do a bit of candlelight stuff, though...

It is a bit like Rembrandt, this camera... :)
How the colors "are there" even in a low exposure like this.

Or stanley... :)

Awesome!

So is the light source just one candle or ???

Nope. There are more.

To get this kind of brightness with one, the candles would have to be close to her face like in the other examples.
I wanted to do something else. More like a practical-lit candle thingy without pushing the candle into the skin to get reflections.

There are 4 small on the floor, and 1 normal about a meter to the right, a little lower and behind her face. I will post a larger shot...

Wow a 6K selfie.

65mm Superspeed mk II at 1.3. 1/48-800 ISO

Now, I have seen from Marks examples what one can do with a candle or a match close to the skin.

WHat I wanted to look at was more of a practically lit "scene".

The CA you see is not fro the cam, but from the blooming Super.... :)

You want an R3D of the last shot?

Yes please!!… Just a still is fine… or a ~250meg motion (to get a sense of the noise/grain in motion).

OK....

Uploading now...

bear in mind though, this is not shot to be graded as "daylight".
It would look extremely noisy if you push it that way, and frankly that is not what I was looking for.

This is a LOW exposure.

But if you look at it "as shot" in RG3 and take that as a hunch for what I was looking for, it is still amazing.

If you guys push the ISO to 12800 and tell me "hey, there is noise in there", well... THAT is not really the bomb.
Of course it is. There are almost no lights.

But for a dark candlelit scene without any extra fill and just practical lighting, which is what I wanted to look at...

I am really happy.

When you look at images like these, I too often see people looking for what it was not testing for.... :)
And that gives litle practical info... Just noise. :)

I do not mind using lights to get stuff brighter... :)
When I expose low, it is because I want that dark look...
(or a very noisy B&W...)

It's lit by five candles; anyone who doesn't understand that it's a "low-light" and/or "incandescent" shot, isn't a cinematographer/photographer.

And thanks for posting…

Yup. Of corse.
But i constantly see people shooting images of "carrots"
And then starts complaining that there are "carrots" in their images, so to speak.

I am perhaps just a bit wary... :-)

There are some obvious differences in intentions between an exposure like this and the ones with Elena...

Just playing. Tried to go all 'Rembrandt' on it, then went off in another direction lol.

So the selfie was with an Epic, but these candle R3Ds are all Dragon, yes?
