  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Stage 4 - Reservations are now Open.

Just got notification my DSMC side handle is ready to be shipped. Excited to get it. My wife doesn't understand she doesn't have to shop for me this Christmas. Just wrap the Handle and put it under the tree. I'll have to open it first though to take pics!
Four daughters and I'm more excited than they are. Still hoping for backordered Redmote and Bomb. Nothing like a Bomb under the tree right? : = )

Thanks to everyone that is joining in with us in our RED world with your new EPIC orders. Was a fun night last night talking with so many people that have been shooting all kinds of wonderful things on RED ONEs and EPICs. And so much excitement about the ability for new customers to order EPICs now.

I know we've had conversations over the past few years about this day. Really great to become part of the official RED family - at last.

This day has been a long time coming for some of us. And its only the beginning.

After much contemplation about a new camera package (since Nov 3rd) this could not have come at a better time. Every other package was still going to cost me around $40K, and the best I could've gotten was a full super 35mm frame @ 60 fps with a sony F3 and external recorder like the gemini 444. Then I got a quiet little email.... then I called my dad to discuss my plans... and then I ordered! For another $15K more I now have 120 fps @ 5K. Now I'm hung over from celebrating last night! Merry X-mas!!!

Stage 4 will be open forever - Stage 4 is for anyone. Just remember that from 1st January 2012, price go up, so if you want to order at current prices, order before 1st January 2012.

Not a popular opinion, I must anticipate, but having Stage 4 cameras shipped at the same time that 3/3.5 does not sound good to me. So, what was, and still is, the rationale for not shipping stage 3/3.4 until ALL stage 2 are shipped? Why is that rationale not valid now? Just curious since for me it can hurt us in two ways:

1. Will not have the advantage of getting them available for rental/use before the general population.
2. The potential effect on competing on accessories that we will buy

Stages 1 and 2 got such advantages, so why not us? Any explanation? Not asking for challenging lectures; just a simple explanation of why a change in rationale.

Luis if you look back into the opening statements again. I believe you might be wrong in your statement... They are only taking the orders...(for those understanding the price adjustments for the near future) and I am sure stages shipping happen a different rate to ordering process... Red are just helping those who want to buy but have not owned one before.

I do not think so. If you go to the first post of this tread, Jarred said (with an open caveat that 3/3.5 will have priority), that stage 4 will be "shipping within the same timeframe". That is not saying that until stage 3/3.5 is done then stage 4 will start...

Stage II guys get 30 days (I think) to complete the deal after notification so that slows things down. Then comes Stage III which also has 30 days I think plus the complications of returning RED ONEs for evaluation, Stage III could be a real Zoo. In the meantime RED can sell Scarlets and Stage Four, you can always buy an M or a Scarlet or a Stage Four if you want to give up or add to your Stage III offer. RED makes money providing the best DSMC's to the World. Let's let them get them out the door in peace. I want to see all these great upcoming Indie films! The advantage to Stage III is still financial, if that is not an issue, buy an M or a Stage Four. Once all the Stage III/Stage 3.5 are done we'll all be effectively Stage Four customers. Serenity now, serenity now.
 
As I said, I know it was not popular opinion. But still, I think I have not heard yet why the change of rationale.
 
Pretty simple. We have to wait for a Stage 3/3.5 to come back to us for trade-in. If just one Stage 3/3.5 is out on a prolonged shoot and cannot come back to us for a year, should we sit here with EPIC-Xs on the shelf and Stage 4 orders in the system - and not ship anything? We cannot control when you send in a Stage 3/3.5 camera, you do.

Ok I see what it is your saying... and maybe is so I will not put words in anyones mouth... as for rental eh I am not a rental sort of person so I cannot comment on that... I just enjoy using the cameras... as for the accessories a lot of us are already feeling that and RED are working hard to resolve the issue oh how I would love some of the backordered parts haha... anyway I wont derail this any further time to go shoot something later this morning and good luck...
