Stage 3 Duty and taxes - Canada

Dylan, if you are charged duties on goods manufactured in the USA, ask RED for the Certificate of Origin (see:

http://www.canadacustomer.fedex.com/ca_english/customsguide/nafta.html

)

James, there's should and then there's what happens in reality. On my Epic-M shipment everything was free of duty except the Pelican Case! Now, it was supposed to be free of duty (it has a big "Made in the USA" stamp right on it!), mind you, but I guess the customs officer had to get a quota in or something. Since RED hadn't provided the COO with the shipment they charged me 11% (!) duty on it. Which meant I had to contact RED to send me a copy of the COO and then send it to FedEx(torsion) to have them apply for a refund which may take months.

Paul, for international shipments there are *always* brokerage fees...it's just that they're hidden/included in the rate you pay, in contrast to ground shipments which add them on after.

Anyone have new info on this or first hand experience with stage 3?
In the end - although the value for tax purpose on the Fedex form stated 23K (not all parts of Stage three were received) I was only charged $1200. I was expecting 13% of 23K which is $2990.

We are shipping back and forth hardware through Canada/US border and you have to be careful and keep all the shipping documents.
If you have prove of shipment of RED 1 and you put 17.5K value with note for replacement/upgrade on it you have right to offset the value.
Send copy of this documents to your broker.
We use FedEx Trade Networks brokers since all others are under-trained and under-paid:-)

There is no way in creation we will pay taxes twice. We would be broke by now.
Also, goods manufactured in US are free of duties, get certificate of origin or invoice with the annotation that goods are manufactured in US.

And yes, you can claim GST credit at the end of the month (or Quarter) from the GST collected.
Normally there will not be provincial tax.
