Stage 3.5 and want to keep your Red One?

Has there been any thought about offering a financial incentive to Stage 3.5 camera owners, allowing them to more easily keep their Red One while transitioning to the Epic S35 body?

This would obviously be in some ways similar to Stage 2, but without the benefit of any free modules or "X" body type..

I ask this, because it seems like a win / win scenario.

1) It would certainly reduce the number of Red One cameras coming back to Red.
2) Several people, like myself, would most likely take that avenue.
3) It would be an added incentive for many of us to MX upgrade without the fear of needing to send the new chipped camera back almost immediately. :seeya:

I actually was posed this very question yesterday after my visit to the Pier59 Studios West..

A development of a new project (6 MXed R1's) would potentially see this cameras returned when in deed their intention would be to pay the 28k for an Epic-X while keeping the R1's and off course benefit form the "X" special edition as well as the Free Accessories, so would be interesting to see what Red will do later on when time comes.

As I said before, I think that when times comes, Red as always does, will come up with something, to give every Reduser a chance, so just need to be patience for those in Stage 3 and 3.5.

I already got the notice to upgrade to MX but am passing. I sold off most of the accessories and plan on using the camera in a stripped down studio configuration until I turn it in to RED.

For those Stage 3 people who are not earning enough to justify the upgrade or feel it's a gamble to upgrade and possibly not recoup that upgrade money before Epic-X ships and the camera gets returned it would be a good option.

I, again, asked about a second chance at Stage 2 in the BUG thread, but received no response. I'm done trying.

Sorry Peter, I guess I was inadvertently hijacking your thread. My thinking was similar to yours with regards to ability to keep your R1, even though I was referring to Stage 3 and not 3.5.

Doesn't apply to me but it sounds reasonable. But I'm thinking with having to build the Epic in the U.S., the Stage 2 and Stage 3 cameras are gonna be loss-leaders. Red 4K and Red Studios and whatever else is behind the curtain may have to take up the slack. I think owning a R-1 of any build date is probably a good investment.

Unless Red has defined plans for the older R1 bodies, I would think that the increased revenue (less trade-in credit and more MX upgrades) could be a good thing for Red.

On the owner side ... We can continue to use our ET breakout boxes, top mounts, side handles, etc. instead of utilizing them as paperweights when Epic arrives.
