STAGE 2: KEEP your RED ONE and get EPIC-X Stage 2 package

Good thing I already have the cash set aside for Epic X and don't need to sell my RED MX. But I want to hear exactly what all this is about.

I'm confused… why does your signature say it's for sale? Unless you have more than one R1? That must be it…

There have been many Redusers who sold their Red One, including Steve Gibby, I believe, and others. I guess they were confused with the meaning of "keep" as opposed to return it to RED for a trade in for stage 3. Not sure why these Redusers, many of them early adopters and respected posters, would be labeled with "bad attitude". I'm sure they all love Red One, but not everyone is a camera collector. Jarred, can you please explain?

I was very clear in my post when this 1st came up that I did not like it and it wasn't the intention of the program.

I see, so people have actually been transfering their RED ONE ownership before getting Epic X? (how do you know this?)

True. It is my understanding that they may have sold their Red One and opted for stage 2 before you clarified that you weren't happy with it. I'm just trying to see both sides of the coin as I know many of those Redusers are big supporters of RED. I think in most cases it was a "confusion" or misunderstanding rather than "bad attitude" and it would be harsh to treat them this way.

As a stage 2 customer I have always understood that ownership cannot be transferred until we accept delivery of our EPIC X. Once we take ownership of the EPIC, we are free to sell our executed Red One if we choose to. We paid for it, we own it, we have the right to sell it -- as long as we abide by the terms and conditions spelled out in the agreement. Makes sense to me.

Nope that's not it. I only have one camera and will need the money from the sale of the camera to offset the price of the Epic X and the extras that I want to buy for it. But I'm in no rush to sell my camera. I'm still shooting on it, so it's getting used still. Just for me having two high priced cameras for just myself is a bit much. I'm only one guy and shoot stock footage mostly and a couple short film, music videos and promotional videos. I try not to have a "bad attitude" but sometimes I have to vent about how things are conducted. It would be kind of surprised if RED all of a sudden said, you can't have your Epic X because you complained and plan to sell your RED MX. The wording of the contract is pretty clear about Stage 2 and it just says that you can't sell your RED One before you have taken possession of your Epic X. Nowhere in there does it say that you have to keep your RED One for a set amount of time after receiving your Epic X. So I find it interesting that RED has started up on this whole thing. But maybe they are just reminding everyone what the contract says. If that's the case then that make sense.

I'm guessing it's because they may have already come across Stage 2 customers they've discovered no longer have their Red Ones and even transferred ownership already. If that wasn't the case I don't think this would come up. And now those Stage 2 customers are being given their deposits back and told they can't buy Stage 2 and if they want an Epic they have to buy an M or wait for Stage 4. I don't know for sure, but that's what it seems like to me just reading this thread. If I'm wrong, then maybe there's some options going to be announced for Stage 2 customers that requires still having your Red One in your possession. Again, I'm only speculating.

Oh, I'm not blaming you, I was just curious. ;-)

I've a Stage 2 confirmation and my RED #598 is next to me and I'll never sell it. Do you need this signed paper from me, I'll do it immediately. Alan Piper was the first who ask for signed T & C a few days ago because my web orders are now transferred
to RED UK.

What does it mean? Are you paying to RED UK? No import duty and customs problems?

Yes, prices are in UK Pounds Sterling now and include freight and import duty charges to the UK. But that's for new web orders, I think not for EPIC-X.

I think pretty much everyone locally here has sold or are trying to sell their MXs. (or have shipped them off to other parts off the region)

For us it never made sense to offload them anyway as the rental returns and benefits of having 2 more in-house 4K+ cameras at our disposal for our own projects just seemed to be a better choice.....

Just means we get more rentals from ours...... and In the meantime our EPIC is kicking ass awaiting its "X" Brethren.

Also, I dont remember signing that form.... although we did pay for the X deposit. Should I be worried?

The KEEP part of the #1 rule for Stage 2 is very important. You will find out soon why.

We have heard there are some people that are taking advantage of a great deal offered in good faith... that falls under " bad attitude ".

Hopefully this message will turn out to be good news for most people and bad news for only a few.

Thats what I exactly wanted, keeping my RED 222 as second camera and as a piece of history. It is very easy to understand, why Jim get opset. If you said YES to stage two, you made a sort of confession: You understood, that with your first RED you got a great piece of technique in your hand but also, and that's somehow more important, a philosophy. And philosophies can't be sold without consequences.
