  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Stage 2 Clarification-what is included as of DEC. 2010

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=648258#post648258

This is a thread about the Side SSD module for R1 and Epic. Jarred does not mention the Rear SSD module here, but maybe he does later in the thread.

And again, that's a september 2010 price vs. Sept,2009 and May 2010 Epic-x clarifications - presumably for the post stage 3 Epic brains rather than Epic-X Stage 2 which would be somewhat locked in and maybe Stage 3 which would have more room for variation since no deposits were taken.

Mike, now i'm confused.....what did you say? Are you saying there is a different price confirmed ? if so, what is it now......

I'm saying AFAIK there hasn't been any announced price increase for a side module by switching to SSD - and IMHO there shouldn't be any price difference since Epic-X always included a side module and the switch to SSD from CF shouldn't incur any great additional expense to RED and therefore no change in price.

To further clarify - I'm saying that any of these other prices regarding side SSD module are or should only be relevant to Epic (not Epic-X) purchases where the price is brain only and you add modules.

Here is a quote about the epic SSD side module vs. the rear SSD module which gives me evidence for my opinion.

Epic is much more complicated of a module... it has a monitor board+port, plus user buttons and a record button.

Obviously, the side CF module would have had the same "monitor board+port, plus user buttons and a record button" so the only difference is the SSD connection rather than CF connection.

I am totally supportive of the switch to SSD, it's the present and future, but as I pointed out earlier there really shouldn't be any significant cost difference on those connections and further any minimal cost differences could easily be absorbed in the large number of SSD REDMAGs they are going to sell - that they wouldn't have otherwise. Also, remember, IIRC when they switched to a different connector for the 16 gig cards that connector was absorbed into the cost when you bought your first 16 gig card.

What Michael said. And since RED's module will only accept RED branded 1.8" media, they should recoup any perceived extra costs for Stage 2 and 3 customer modules in media sales.
