Last week on couple of days shoot, Red One heats up and we need to provide a fan near suction and it happened in Studio Floor. 3 Days before, for another shoot in A/C floor, the camera heats up again and need to shutdown the camera 6 times in 8 hour shoot on 23 degree celsius room temperature. Camera assistants report there might be fan failure.
Is Red really planning to provide any solution regarding heat. Are they listening for heat. Many people from film industry after seeing the condition of Red One on the above shoots are questioning the capability of Red to hold on to shooting conditions. Also camera restarts on playback, which makes it even worse and we were forced to stop playback for entire shoot. Tested this on Build 16 in couple of cameras in india.
Is Red suitable for Indian conditions?
Without stability Film can't be shot with Red since it involves various factors like Artists, Call Sheet and Money.
I launched couple of complaints for couple of cameras which I use regularly.
Quality alone can't decide the choice of medium. Stability is the key factor. I believe in Digital Cinema / Red One, but there needs to be a proactive conversation from other side. Even bigger people like Arri and Sony fear about the inroads Red one makes on Film and Ad shoot, but stability ?
Reason for posting again is not to tarnish the image of Red but to help move beyond. No of posts related to heat results in vain without proper feedback from Red and users report to have umbrella on outdoor, but camera heats up indoor on shooting floor.
Fingers crossed for our feature film which is going to be shot on Red One in another 2 days in Prasad Studio Floor, Chennai, India. Will update the status as it happens.
