Hi Guys

just prepping my camera for a shoot tomorrow and all of a sudden, none of my SSD cards work in the camera anymore. I'm on Beta 6.2.3 and when I insert a card it says "Media in side module is not a RED SSD card, performance reduced" when I try to format the card it says "formatting failed".
Anyone else experiencing this ?

I have *not* heard of this, but try reseating the SSD module and doing a hard reset. Also try going to a release build (if it allows you to do that).

Hey Mike,

just went back to the latest release and that seems to have fixed the issue, was using the Beta for the last 10 days or so because it had some interesting features that came in handy and during that time no problems whatsoever, this morning I booted the camera and none of the SSds got recognized.

Whew... well, alls well that ends well... If you have the time, send a log to RED so that the beta can get to release quicker! : )

Shall do, what a strange bug to come up.

My 512gb SSD just shit itself and to fix it is $3,300 US which makes it close to 5k AUS and AON our insurer won't cover it. FML!

How is it costing so much to repair when you can buy a new one for $2,450 ? Is the card not covered by warranty? Not sure if any insurance covers wear and tear or ongoing repairs.

How does a card shit itself? Was is physically damaged? Yes the exchange rate is kill us Aussies, I'm just changing over to Mini Mags at the moment and its well over $10,000 AUD and the media I got was 2nd hand.
I'd recommend dropping your card from a moving vehicle 'on a shoot' and go that way, however if you've already spoken to your insurer and been denied - they'll smell the rat straight away.

PS: Dominik - Looked at your Vimeo channel, I think you may have one of the greatest jobs in the world.

Hey Tom, it is the older turbo 512gb SSD and to replace that SSD costs a shit tonne. I am weighing up just buy 2x240gb SSD because it is far cheaper, i'm surprised RED didn't offer that up as an alternative. They then charge me change out the old SSD and put the new on in the existing casing....pretty lame I thought.

Nah it's not covered under warranty.

Card wasn't physically damaged at all, it came up with a fault that would shut the entire camera down, I thought they were indestructible but apparently they have a life cycle and it's life must have been up.

Aussie dollar sucks hard right now, glad I got most of my kits together a while back!

who are you with at AON ? man my policy covers everything, there is a small excess of course but seriously, I could have aliens beam my shit into space and its covered.
And yup, aussie dollar is shocking at the moment, worst time to get any gear.

Adam: Hahah thanks man, believe me, its not as great as it seems lol

Yeah man i'm with AON, not very impressed......Like Adam said, I should have dropped it out of a moving vehicle and that came straight from the rep! Too late now that we have already enquired about it.

Aon is the broker, but your insurance policy itself would be with someone else, I'm with AON too but my policy is actually with Allianz, which so far has been friggin amazing. Hit up Revicalyn Monzon at AON and ask her about the Allianz cover.

Solid state memory is nowhere nearly as reliable as people think and because of the structure of the memory bank there is usually no recovery and the entire module needs to be replaced. Had a SSD drive die on me a little while ago, literally from one second to the other my editing machine stopped working.

A little off topic but how much are all you other Aussie Guys paying for insurance?

I'm paying $6,200 per year for $113,500 cover.
Covers theft, Damage, Loss - by either repair, replacement or payout of declared amount (which ever is cheapest)
My excess is $250 per claim

I also rent out my gear, any claim related to a hire is double the excess ($500)

My Broker is Gibson insurance in Melbourne and the underwriter is actually Chubb Insurance.
Another friend is with them (same broker and insurer) and has never had an issue, always paid out with no disputes.

What are you guys paying through AON?

Main reason I don't ever put Beta releases in my camera, too scary :)

As for insurance, even if it's a whole other ballpark between countries, I've never found an insurance company that covers everything. I've forced my insurance company to make a special expensive deal with me, that was the only way to get close to enough coverage, but there are still things that I want covered, like internal electronic faults when past warranty.

Thats fraud, not very clever.
