  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sprinter Van

Love the stability control on the Sprinter!
It's not as fun to drive as my Ferrari, but it holds a whole lot more gear and gets much better gas mileage.

All the Best!

I have been getting questions about the Sprinter van, and thought I would post an update.
My original plan was to cart everything, and roll out as needed. But with changes in my market and client direction, I have setup my van with shelving racks on one side and flag/diffusion storage on the other side.

Sorry about the crappy iPhone photos.

This is not a grip truck, but my personal use shooting van outfitted with just about everything I need on a commercial shoot. But I have to say... even with all the room I have, it's still not enough to hold all my gear. :nonod:

Cool- looking at used ones. Questions?

1. When did Mercedes start making them (year)
2. Are they all diesel?

Any years to avoid?

thanks!

Please do Blair, I'd love to see other configurations. Back when I was shooting on the Red One M, I had my gear on carts and the front setup as a DIT area. But my market here is so fickle that I have had to change with the times, AKA crappy local economy with very limited budgets. How are things going in my former home town of Sunny Fundiego?

They were always OEM Mercedes, just rebadged in the US as both Dodge and Freghtliner at different times.

Pretty sure they are all common rail fuel injected turbo-diesel. They started out using inline 5 cylinder engines and then switched to an I-6 design in 2008 or 2009. Mine is a 3500 with dualies which I recommend due to the added stability in cross winds.

It's easily the most comfortable, best handling and easy to drive "big" vehicle I have ever driven. The amount of stuff you can haul while still getting 20mpg is hard to believe. Biggest complaint is that it cannot access most parking structures due to its height. Good luck on the used market Tim, here in SoCal there is little resale inventory.

Cheers - #19

#1: not sure of the first year of manufacture. All of the Sprinters are manufactured by Mercedes, even though they may be branded and sold by Dodge or Freightliner.

#1: as far as I know they are all diesel. Mine is a 5 cylinder turbo and gets around 27mpg.

Not sure of years to avoid.

No shoots today, so a few better shots, sorry still iPhone pics.

For those that may be interested, I will be placing my Sprinter Van up for sale soon.

I can configure it a number of different ways, with different pieces of gear to directly fit your particular needs and budget.

It would be a great way for someone to take the next step in their career, at a substantial savings over purchasing new.

All the best!

Dave

Hey David,

Why are you putting it up for sale? I might be interested as my transit connect is far too tiny for most jobs.

I have a full size transit and I love it. Serves as an all in one Grip electric Camera van for smaller commercials. Full on camera for larger ones. And great for locations or crafty or props for features. It’s gets a lot of use

Ive got a LWB Transit Connect, and it can really pack in the gear for a small package. But I'm a bit worried about how I'm constantly overloading the shocks with a gear package though! Thinking of upgrading to a Nissan NV2500 however, though not having a car payment for awhile is a nice though. That option might just keep me driving this transit til it catches on fire (and just keep much of my G&E in a friends box truck).

I wanted something with a small footprint can fit in a parking spot, and wheel carts on, and be able to stand up in. My van checks all those boxes. It also pays for itself, the insurance, and a garage to park it in
