I felt like i needed to comment anonymously on something that I have seen happening a few times and it appears to be happening again with Scarlet to a whole new level. Everyone, we are getting spoiled.

Red has always been an open book. When we saw something we did not like, we all started to complain, and they did something about it, and so next time we wanted something, and when they hesitated, we all screamed a little louder (remember the metric lenses) until they complied.

Scarlet now is out and people are making polls and screaming about removable lenses and how to make it different and how its not what they want it to be. Screaming how we actually know how to make a camera and business decisions better than Jim does. And yes I am guilty myself.

Maybe we can be a little gentler with the feedback. Take a moment to realize how incredible we actually have it. Red is a company that is listening, we don't need to yell. Let us not take advantage.

Red has told us we are family, and I do not want us to start looking like their spoiled little children.

Moderators/Jarred/Red, I would appreciate you keeping my real identity private if that is alright since I am pointing fingers at my fellow friends.

are you......___________.

You know your ip adress is known?

i totally agree... the stuff they're offering was unheard of just a few years ago. they're leading innovation at a breakneck pace in what previously felt like a sloth of an industry. i think hanging out in a forum for too long makes it easy to miss this bigger picture....

Spoiled why exactly? Because we say the product could be better if this and this and this were available?

They're called opinions.

It just struck me - this is probably a much cheaper and more effective form of market research than any expensive agency is able to offer.

I agree 100%.

We don't know how good we have it to have access to the development process.

Thanks Red Family.

Think of it like this:

I can walk into Honda, and I can buy a Civic for $13,000 - but it won't have an AC. And it won't have a cruise control. And it may just have an AM/FM radio.

But, i can get these things, pay a little more, and that's what MOST people do.

OR, I could step it up and get an Accord with these features. But that's going to cost me a lot more.

This is basically what it's like. We want a civic, but we'd like to be able to get a few essentials. We know that there are things this won't have in comparison to another unit, but that being said - if your choice was only a civic without any of the accoutrement you'd come to expect, would you really be happy if you could only get those on a vehicle that cost significantly more?

The ones who are working and making money are not complaining!!!

I am not complaining either. I am sharing my opinion on the RED Scarlet and what I would like to see improved/changed. It is NAB and during NAB new technologies are unveiled and announcements are made. Next week, it will be a week as normal for me and I will wait and see how the Scarlet will turn out, final specifications, sample footage etcetera.

If everyone would have said "YES and amen". Now that would be scary. And I also think RED is to blame as they hyped this camera. The more hype, the higher the expectations, the more people who are disappointed.

And the only real complain I here is about it not having interchangeable lenses. Most other things are fine to 90% of the people here.

Let us not take advantage.

Agreed.

Wondering if there was a way to add interchangeable lenses is one thing. Asking for RED to reconsider this decision is OK, too.

Saying RED dropped the ball is ridiculous. Saying that it's a required option is ridiculous. Saying it 'could have been awesome' is ridiculous.

Can I remind everyone that it's $3000, which is about $1000 less than a standard def DVX-100B was 18 months ago....

To all of you who consider Scarlet worthless because of the fixed lens, good! That means I won't have to wait as long to get the two I'm going to order.

The thing also costs less than $3,000... you need to be realistic.

That's less than a Z1U, less than an HVX... it's going to totally destroy that market. And lo and behold, those are fixed-lens cameras, too. You need a removable lens camera, you step up to the professional realm. And the RED ONE also costs a fraction of anything else in its class (is anything else even in its class?).

I think that at its pricepoint and intended market, Scarlet is a dream come true.
