I am looking at the above software solutions for building an on set look preview system. What would be the better choice ? Can GD playback realtime RED footage I didn't understand this from their website. They support Rocket so I think it is possible. I also like how they are aimed at providing the most color accurate image to be passed down the line to the lab or DI suite.
Can Speedgrade achieve the same things ? Is it more oriented to grading on set than Gamma and Density ?
Thanks.

SpeedGrade is a full grading application with Primaries, Secondaries, EDL conform tools and a strong focus on stereo productions plus camera RAW workflows. SpeedGrade has the latest Red SDK (RedRocket Support) implemented but is not tight to Red. It swallows almost everything from Dalsa 4K RAW to mpeg4 files.

If you are looking more to a digital lab that eats every camera codec on earth, has picture evaluation tools, leverages RedRocket and has a basic primary colour correction SpeedGrade's little brother FrameCycler would do the job very well.

On Gamma and Density I cannot comment.

Well I was referring to the basic Speed Grade software ( the SpeedGrade On set).

speedgrade on set is for single frame grading, you have every feature the finishing tool have exept masks. you can browse the clip to choose the frame but you only could look at that frame and can not play anything.
you can export your grade in a variety of luts formats and also have the iridas look for going into the di version.

3cP does not have realtime playback of anything. Rocket only speeds up rendering.

3cP is annoying for working with Red footage because it have limit ability to adjust metadata and when you are adjusting metadata you can only see a little postage stamp of your changes. You can't use the scopes or monitor output or any of the nice features of 3cP.

3cP works for making dailies, but RedcineX works great.

I am very interested in Storm.

Where 3cP is nice is if you need to send LUTs to the post facility. But you can get the same using Redcine and metadata.

I tried a demo of Speedgrade onset for a few minutes and didn't care for it at all. It only grades stills. Great if that is all you need, but all the other tools do so much more.

If 3cP wasn't $1500 I would recommend it, but everytime I want to use it I have too many problems.
