  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sparta 2/3 RAW in development

At f/1.4 most of your tif looked good as far as aliasing and chroma moire, but there did seem to be a little aliasing on your nose which was the most in focus, I can see at smaller stops bigger issues could show up.

Have you seen these links, there is some info in them on OLPF,

Link about Epson's new OLPF filter,

http://www.epson.co.jp/e/newsroom/2007/news_20070906.htm

http://www.epsontoyocom.co.jp/english/product/Optical/set08/olpf_4/index.html

Here is another type, they have some files you can read on their site,

The OLPF needs to be larger than the sensor so that the edge rays from the lens do not get cut off.

Since these are about 2mm think they add negative spherical aberration when fast lenses are used and introduce some focus shift issues between working full open and stopped down, many lenses are not corrected for having such a thick plate between them and the focal plane. To combat the loss of focus the sharpen can be made stronger, but that adds noise etc.

Thanks Dan for the info on OLPF's.

I've already knew some info, and actually I am in contact with Sunex too.

But any extra info is always welcome and appreciated.

Also Edmund Optics sell a lot of filters for MVC for different sensor and pixel sizes. (they are very cheap and you can buy one by one, and not have to order a batch of filters like in Sunex)

The biggest problem with OLPF's, is that they have to be made according to exact sensor specs, in order to get the best quality out of them and not produce excess blurriness...

Things like pixel size and distance of placement of the filter count a lot....

Most MVC manufacturers don't want to deal with such "problems", because for most of the MVC Industry they want the sharpest resolution possible, and usually don't care if the picture is "nice" or not. (like we do for Cinema)

Another thing is that many of the MVC applications record the images in mono (B&W), and the resolution is higher than "color" (bayer), because every pixel in the sensor is used to capture the B&W images...

And we already know that at higher resolutions (like 4K bayer for example) the less aliasing and "jaggies" in the final image (hence they need less AA "anti- aliasing" qualities in the OLPF)

I think that is one of the primary issues (among others) that had slowed down the wide acceptance of MVC's for Cinema purposes...but we are close!

You guys aren't thinking 4 dimensionally.

I have had much correspondence with Kodak in the past. The KAI-4021 sensor can do 24 FPS at around 2k. It's also much larger, a 21.4 diag size vs. your 12.1.

The Kodak KAI-2093 is 16.3mm diagonal and 14.3 mm wide.

The sensor that you mention has the same pixel size and characteristics as the 2093 CCD (7.4 µm), and is only 15.2mm wide. Also is more expensive.

And actually the AVT Pike F-421c camera (MVC), and the Nox2K Digital Cinema camera from Germany, use that sensor already.

I would prefer the 2093 just in case I need to shoot 1080/30p, which the 4021 cannot do....

Thanks,

Hello

Could Norma Montenegro or Fernando Adaro of the Sparta Project/Dinamicam/ Cineraw please contact me about the 1344 Euros you accepted in January 09 for a Travellcam Dolly but then delivered nothing.

The remittance slip you emailed me in October never was accompanied by any funds to my account - in short you never sent the money.

I understand you are busy building your new camera but its been a year of struggling to get my money returned. I am trying to contact you though the forums because you no longer answer your phone or emails.

Many thanks

James Mather

you do it right.. no mercy w/ such things :boxing_smiley:

Hello (again) to Fernando Adaro and Norma Montenegro of Dinamicam, Cineraw ES, Sparta - I have reported your company to the FBI's Internet Crime Centre and provided the names of the people who were in contact with me/took my money to aid their investigation into your business dealings. Just FYI.

Still waiting on my money back (1344 euros) or a Travellcam dolly - no sign of either (a year later).

Thx. J.

Hello (again) to Fernando Adaro and Norma Montenegro of Dinamicam, Cineraw ES, Sparta - Happy Birthday! - its now officially over a year since you took my money and delivered nothing. Hope the new camera is coming along well (Irony)

Are they even making that camera anymore? Given it probably shows how right Jim is when he says that it's pretty difficult leap to make a camera from scratch...
