  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

For the other space geeks out there, Elon Musk was successful today!

"Falcon 1 has made history as the first privately developed liquid fueled launch vehicle to achieve earth orbit!!!!!!"

www.spacex.com

Very much reminds me of RED. We are living in interesting times...

Any thoughts, Mr. Jannard?

After watching this monumental achievement live on their website- the first privately designed and built space ship launched into orbit - I jumped over to the news sites to see what they had to say.

Nothing.

Tina Fey did yet another impersonation of Sarah Palin and gets the home page while a cornerstone event in the grandest and most important endeavour that humanity will ever undertake... isn't considered newsworthy enough to write about at all.

That is one of the sadder comments on humanity I've noted in a long while.

But I will ignore this shortsightedness and celebrate that Elon Musk's has done what only a handful of nations have done- and it is a grand thing indeed.

It was exactly same with Red, or with quantum teleportation or...
Hehe, but it gives me space to shock other people with hilarious but true info

There are some importatnt aspects which can cause shrinking buget for NASA in future. I think they are not so happy in NASA with SpaceX.

"I think they are not so happy in NASA with SpaceX"

Replace NASA with Sony/Pany, and replace SpaceX with RED. Kind of feels similar, no?

I guess it's fortunate then, that us "test monkeys" got in the right spaceship.

Beam Us Up, Jim.

Jim, sir, please, a comment on SpaceX would be sooooo cool!

This is awesome!!!!
I bet that in ten years we will travel regularly to other planets!
I can't wait to go on Mars for Christmas, or on Uranus for the New Year,etc...

This is great news! I remember Elon saying, that if the next launch wasn't successful, he'd have to stop pursuing all this. Really happy for him.

No, you can go to mars in Christmas and return 2 Christmases later unless they come up with some quicker way of getting there. As for Uranus, so long, you ain't coming back... Make sure you get enough CF cards :clown2:

I'm pretty sure space-ships will advance very fast just like computers and digital cameras.
Just watch Star Trek to see what the future will be like...

The physics of propulsion and orbital mechanics mean that it is between months and years to get to Mars and back depending on when you go and how much fuel you have to burn. Any Star Trekkian mode of propulsion would not only require us to be all wrong in our understanding of physics -which is highly probable, but to be all wrong in a very specific and precise way - which is phenomenally improbable.

The most telling evidence that there is no such thing as a faster than light drive is that the universe isn't teaming with travellers. It is either; a) there is no such thing as faster than light space flight or- b) intelligence is a non-survivable evolutionary trait due to an inevitable technological singularity that is species ending each and every time.

As for short term (next 50 or so years, depending on our singularity) in space flight, we are stuck at only tens of thousands of miles per hour and so any vacation trips will be relegated to cislunar space and maybe out to the Terra-Luna Lagrange Two if a station is established there.

Trips further out will be the realm of exploration and emigration.

Clint:

I'm a space buff (shot STS-122 with my RED) and have read a lot but that is probably the best, most concise explanation of the issue I've ever seen.

Well....right now space flight is still in the stone age.
Using chemical rockets it's not the way to go.
Somebody needs to invent a matter-antimatter propulsion system.

"but to be all wrong in a very specific and precise way - which is phenomenally improbable"

Classic! Read and Douglas Adams lately?

Will Space X win the Bigelow America's Space Prize?:w00t:
