Could someone provide a step by step on how to sync Sound to Video with the RED Rocket™? More specifically, if I were to take audio files from the sound guy at wrap and needed to sync it with the video using the same timecode, how do I do it? Is it even possible with the RED Rocket?

Thanks

I do all my syncing in the editing system, so I haven't done too much playing around with syncing in ROCKETCINE-X, but when I did, it was pretty straightforward - set your encode settings to external audio, go to audio menu and select folder containing BWF and desired tracks, then you let 'er rip. Poke around a bit and you will figure it out.

So as my current sound recordist told me that BWF and WAV should be the same I cant figure it out to get a sync..... would be great to export the MXFs with all sound tracks in sync.... for synced playback via HD-SDI we need a firmware update from Deanan which is working on it.... but now luck on syncing wav files here.....

BWF uses WAV as the essence but the B part of BWF is the additional metadata chuck that includes timecode. Don't assume a WAV file on its own has timecode.

And while syncing dailies in REDROCKET-X has value in some productions, I prefer to sync in the MC where I can get all the metadata from the B chuck such as track names and such in addition to timecode and be able to track it to its original sources if needed - such as filename itself. Also, I get 8 track audio from BWF, right now I am limited to selecting 4. If ROCKETCINE-X could select the mix track from the set of files and use that as a scratch track while persisting all the other metadata, then that would be very cool. But for now syncing in MC is very fast based on AutoSync and I get the metadata.

I received my RedRocket last week and have been using it on set this week. It's really great on the video side but not on the audio side.

Right now the RR is limited to only 4 audio tracks. Also, if you're syncing picture to an external audio source, it will create new audio tracks and won't allow you to re-connect to the original audio source (multiple track BWF's). Unless that changes, it isn't usable to sync audio to picture for dailies or post workflows. I also haven't worked on a film or television project that works with less than 6-8 audio tracks. hopefully this changes.

For Final Cut Pro users, here is a great application for syncing audio to video...
Sync-N-Link made by Assisted Editing. If you are using 'clock-it boxes' and TOD timecode, it's a breeze to sync audio to picture in FCP.
