I'm curious, we have and love our Sound Devices PIX240's and we nearly always film with them to serve as a backup and instant Proxy maker. Sometimes because of budgets or time we edit directly from the ProRes422.

For simple interviews we use the Pix to power our mics via 48V, anything more complex we use one of our great sound guys.

In the setup menu we tend to delay the Audio coming in by 48ms, this is to match the time it takes for the Epics to record the signal and output it via SDI into the Pix240.

This delay doesn't seem quite perfect yet, (maybe 98%) does anyone else have a time delay setting they can suggest for the PIX ?

Or to put it another way, how long does it take for a video signal to go through the Red Epics and out of the SDI out.

HAPPY MONDAY TO ALL!

You could work it out exactly by feeding the same audio feed to both the camera and the PIX, shooting a clapperboard, then compare the audio waveforms of the R3Ds and the corresponding ProRes files and see how far apart they are.

Let us know what you find :)

Eric, that's a brilliant idea, I'll try and do this in the next couple of days. And post the results.

Ted, I'll look in the manual, thanks, but if I didn't post this question I would have missed the great response from Eric Young.

Thanks Ken

surely as the Red one is an older technology (still great though) that more time would have been required to process the signal?

I just went through this - 165ms was the delay if feeding the pix direct w sound….

Sdi imbedded was off also- but didn't figure out the exact time for that….

I just picked up an Odyssey so going to have to figure something out w the imbedded audio…..

I believe Sound Devices recommends setting a 167ms delay for PIX240i and EPIC. If 165ms is better I'll happily change.
