  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sound bag for Sound Devices 442 mixer and 722t recorder?

The Sound Devices CS-4 bag is a good audio bag. Should be able to obtain one for under 200 USD, not including shipping. Adding on a CS-W accessory pouch (approx 100 USD) makes for a pretty decent mobile audio setup, I've run around with a 422/788T, 2-3 channels of Lectrosonics receivers and 2 NP batteries with a CS-4/CS-W bag. Bag has velcro straps to fasten to the corner attach points on the SD equipment, the sides are open and accessible for easy connections. Velcro strips on the side cable pouches keep it closed up after you're hooked up to keep environmental exposure to a minimum.

Pretty rugged, bought mine in 2009, and it's held up through about 50 days of film production, a bunch of ENG/event work, and several smaller day jobs. Majority of it was equipment rental to boot.

Petrol deca bags , 601 or 602 would be the perfect for your needs , not to mention , it is much ragged then any other and you get the best protection for your gear . check with soundmen people and you will find that it is the most popular couse its flexibility for any change in your equipment . and for a side not , i'm the guy who created that bag with petrol team in 2004 for my needs ( the 602) , and from some reason allot found it good for them as well :-)
i think that the 602 will be perfect mate as i can take up to 2 mixers ( shit happense) + recorder and 5-8 transmitters and receivers on board , not to mention , special arrangement for battery and double floor to send your cables so they will not be a mess , detachable dividers to place your gear as tight as possible , detachable pouches if you need more wireless stuff to play around and spessial pilows to rise your equipment if it not deep enouth ro sit on the bag floor .
sorry - there is no other bag which makes your life so easy .
about durability , i still have the n-1 which came out from factory line and it did much more that any other bag without loosing anything from its shape or have any damage even it was dumped , dropped and have been used in extrim conditions ( except the color , it lost its blue during the years ) .

Hey, Oleg! I bought some audio gear from you a few years ago. Thanks for the recommendation on the Petrol bag. I think Petrol's newest bag is the 607. Can you tell me if this bag has any advantage over the 602, or is the 607 not large enough?

the 607 is dedicated for 302 mixer, it also could take the 702 , as stand alon or if you really want ,even 302 together with 702. but it doesn't work for 442.
you did uy a gear from me ?, i hope it served you well

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I think I bought either my Lectrosonics wireless mics or the Sanken CS3-e mic from you. Can't really remember. How do you compare the 602 to the CS-4 bag? And which one is bigger, the 601 or 602?
 
I don't compare apples to oranges :-)

The 602 is bigger and heavier by half kg - needless to say, you can upload it with much more gear .

The 602 aka Eargonizer medium was made to carry my HHB tc portadat , sqn iv mixer ,4 lectrosonics 210/205 , 2 ifb transmitters , 2 bp-90 batteries and at lest 3 packs of Rothmans cigarettes :-) on some French feature I recorded in docu style in 2004 - the whale rig came to about 14 kg includes spar batteries and all the regular shit - Don't try it with CS-4 :-)

Thanks again. I'm going to buy the 602 bag. Oleg, do you have any idea how the sound devices 442 mixer and Lectro 210D/200c performs in really cold temperatures?
 
The 442 is a problematic with high humidity , keep the surface dry , the cold is not really a prolem , the 210 doesn't have any problem , it is a work horse

sorry that cant help you 2 buy one even we have the best prices here - 602 is 230 u$ , the shipping is about 50 to US , B@H , have them for 244 incl shipping , of course if you need additional wireless that i have for sale in the other section , it could be almost free shipping :-), just kidding
you will not be disappointed with that bag .

You might want to consider a bag designed for the 552, if you think you might migrate from the 442 to the 552 in the future. They are the same size, but bags designed for the 552 will probably have bottom access to the SD card slot.

I have a previous generation Petrol Pegz for my 552 & 702T combo.
