  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sorry if this is a dumb question... (fixed focus/zoom ring)

...but... what is that on the lens of the scarlet 2/3 fixed? Is that a zoom ring or a focus ring? Or are both on there and I'm just blind...

I assume it's a zoom ring, but then where's the focus?

There are also user buttons on the side handle that likely will be programmable to toggle the ring between different functions.

There is one ring on the lens that can be programmed to control either focus, zoom or iris.

Oh wow! This thing just keeps sounding better and better by the minute.

Cool!

Any idea though if you can switch the functionality while filming? I can't imagine why I'd need that... but still!

That's an interesting point and I don't know if this has been discussed much ( probably has ). Say the ring is set to control zoom, could the focus points be preset for an automated push or pull?

No reason why not. The user buttons on the R1 are used in similar ways, mostly to switch the LCD/EVF between monitoring modes.
