  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SOOOO MAD!

The oil companies have been writing their own regulations forever. So is that bad gov't or bad business? Both. Corrupt corporations OWN our Gov't. To the extent anyone hates the Gov't they also hate big business. And rightly so.

I seem to remember these oil companies raking in more profits than any other companies in the history of the planet WHILE we're at war to benefit their interests.

I'm pretty sure they've got the money to pay to fix this - even if it's 100 Billion. And if they don't? Well they can go bankrupt and the American people can get to be the largest creditor. They can just give us free gas for the next "forever" to pay off the debt. Seems fair to me.

Im sketched on the whole situation.. its sickening.. I feel like this should have/could have been fixed right away.. why its taking this long is beyond me...

absolutely disgusting

follow the money trail...

If it wasn't so crazy I would be behind Russia's proposed nuclear option. That being said it's starting to seem less crazy then waiting for the relief well.

heres the really sick thing.. just like that article..
BP has had THOUSANDS of good ideas come through in order to help solve or at least clean up what oil has spilled.. and they REFUSE to listen or take any suggestions.. if they wont make money off it.. they wont listen..

example.. the highly toxic and illegal dispersant they are using on the spill..
is owned by.. who? thats right BP and goldman sachs.. WTF

this shit was outlawed after exxon valdez.. and they start using it without permission..
its way worst than the oil by itself.. GUHHHHH

If I were a rich man, I would buy ad space for this clip on every network.

This is a direct quote that can still be found on the Heritage Foundation's website:

"Myth: Drilling poses great risks of oil spills. The last major offshore oil spill in America occurred off of Santa Barbara in 1969. Critics of offshore drilling still refer to this incident, but much has changed in the interim. Drilling technology has greatly advanced in recent decades, and any new drilling will have to comply with strict safeguards that did not exist then."

that made my stomach sick.. i cant even enjoy my car anymore .. i just feel guilty in it

what do we do other than get mad? send money? go down there ? stop driving ?

everyones mad and pointing fingers while this thing gushes out poison

so what do we do? :cryin:

What this says about our society is really terrible. No thank you to BP for all the things they've done to support our automobile lifestyle. Thank you BP for drilling deep and getting more oil. We don't give a damn about nature anyway. Drill baby drill!

I'd assume less driving, less energy consumption, less consumerism etc. the whole sustainabilty thing will help the most. These birds are surely not the last to die. There are even people out there who think it is a sport to shoot animals...

but this forum is not the place to discuss that...

and who killed the electric car???

GM, and look where they are now, begging for tax payer money to stay afloat. Sure they are paying it back but at the cost of thousands of jobs which include shutting down dozens of factories, hundreds of dealerships and axing brands. The gov may get their money back but the people certainly will not get their jobs back.

A close friend of my father had an EV1, I drove in it a couple of times. He loved it and GM took it back and sent it straight to the scrap yard. Want to know where all the perfectly good working EV1's went? Right Here:

GM had a perfectly good opportunity to introduce electric power to the automotive industry years ago but we all know what happened. Now the only electric car you can get is the Tesla which is not an option for 99.9% of our population. People always talk about the dangers of nuclear power but there has only been one nuclear disaster (nothing bad came out of three mile island) and oil drilling has done far far more environmental damage. With more nuclear power plants and low cost electric cars like the EV1 on the market, we could really cut our dependence on oil drastically. Great strides have been made in battery technology but now, auto makers are to broke to invest in the technology. Hybrids are about all we can expect for the next decade. Its sad really, GM had the chance and blew it. If they had stuck with the technology, they would have beat the Japanese to the punch (who were doing nothing with hybrid or electric back in the 90's, they were just starting to make quality cars). If they had stuck with it, the electric technology could have been in full swing by the time this oil crisis came about and GM would be on top with a number of electric offerings.

Yes, the drill baby drill vids look bad, but Obama has done nothing to move forward with new energy development other than talk about it. Cap and Trade will be a disaster. IMO, we need nuclear power now.

And Zak is correct, the dispersant chem's BP is using is horrible. With the hurricane season coming up, there are fears that these chemicals will be dumped on land. First the wildlife dies.... then we die.

haha. the cars in that pic weren't there for long. they shredded them all in an industrial hopper. or so the story goes

in my view going nuclear is not a happy option. wind, tidal, geothermal, solar... its all good enough, clean, and could come online sooner than getting approval for and building new nuclear stations anyway.

Tesla isn't the only player in the ev market either, other options are around and more are in the works. And the battery tech isn't as bad as its made out to be, sure it will get better but as of right now lithium ion cells are good enough for afew hundred kms easy [like 100-300 depending on how big the pack is] and the performance is there too.

hybrids may well be all we can expect for a decade, but its not because they can't make decent ev's in my honest opinion. more a question of what do they do if people start to prefer electric cars- the problem being they are infinitely less profitable for the manufacturer

i have afew electrical engineer geek mates who managed to build their own electric cars easy enough. they are great to drive, cost virtually nothing to run, and best of all don't use a drop of that horrible oily stuff thats ruining your guys gulf. I'm with Zac, sickens me to my core

Can anyone with a RED in Louisiana document this? It is a horrible tragedy.

Shame.

my father works at Hawaiian Electric and i hate to break it to you guys but the electric companies burn oil to make electricity

LOL... true indeed.

Nuclear power is the best in terms of initial investment and power output, no form of power generation is more efficient. Solar is great, so is wind but there are not developing power in the levels we need. Offshore wind farms are efficient but environmentalists hate it when you put them up. Same for land-based wind farms. Solar is frankly, not efficient enough to produce power in the amounts we need. If cars are going to run on electricity, expect power consumption to go up tenfold. Nuke is the best option, always has been, it is clean, efficient, cheap and once you have the waste storage sorted out, it is not dangerous.

About electric conversions, the same guy I know who had an EV1, converted his 911 to electric power, it was very very fast but not that efficient, but that was like 10 years ago.

Here is a good overview of the benefits of nuclear power: http://www.umich.edu/~gs265/society/nuclear.htm

France, which considers itself one of the most environmentally friendly nations in the world, generates a significant portion, like 76%, of its electricity from nuclear energy.

heres the problem with the electric car .. the more people buy the more they plug in .. the more electricity will need to be created and that means the more oil the electric company has to burn

you cant escape it ..its unnatural and i dont think theres any turning back

its like watching a nuclear bomb coming through the sky and you can see it right before the power goes out and you know this is it but you stand there powerless
