  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Soon, very soon, there will be no video rental stores.

We actually gave up our Netflix membership in favor of supporting our neighborhood video store- Vidiots. Access to DVD for research is an important part of our business and Netflix isn't fast enough and downloads don't cover the same library... Yet.

Also, I'm sorry to disagree with other members- bit torrent is stealing. In our case, it would be stealing from the hands that feed us. Unless you like crap movies with crap actors, stop stealing movies. Go pay your 10 bucks. I'm not saying every movie deserves to make a jillion- some expensive crap is crap. But 80% of the participants in this forum are professionals, or want to be. And someone needs to pay your salary.

Also, we all like bonus materials- hell, for many of us it's film school. And those go away with VOD.

Please support your local video store, redbox, and Netflix. Screw blockbuster (but that's a different rant.)

Amen... And, amen.

This is getting better. Netflix has facilities to provide bonus content with streaming features and is starting to do some of this. iTunes offers it via iTunes-Extras. So we will eventually have this stuff with streaming media.

I probably would support a local mom n' pop video store, if we still had one. Redbox is convenient and I use it here and there if I know I want something right now. Netflix has a mailing center locally here, it's practically integrated to one of the main postal hubs here in Denver. I can turn around a netflix DVD for a new one in 48 hours no problem. I can even get it the following day if I get the disc to my local post office before their first pickup and sort, which means dropping it off inside by 8am. Then it *usually* gets to the Denver in time for them to hand it off to Netflix and mail my DVD out that afternoon. That's a pain though, it's still a 15 minute drive to get there and it's worked about 3 out of the 5 times I've tried it.

strangely enough here where i live there are two blockbusters, and they have a buttload of indie movies from tons of different festivals. lots of low budget really great stories. sometimes they have stuff not even available on netflix or torrents. I just go there, check reviews on rotten tomatoes and walk out with three indie movies or more at a time. Not sure if its just the community digging indie stuff, but i sure as heck love it and am happy they still are above water. I like going and scoping out all the key art on the packages and walking around aimlessly. I feel if i rent a dvd, i have to watch it, where as when i stream or get on netflix, if im not stoked in the first 20 mins or so, i can just go to something else. but thats just my a.d.d. talking.
