If you want to see the future of Web based episodic distribution check out the new Crackle.com feature ‘Angel of Death’. The Sony distributed movie was all shot on the RED ONE.
‘Angel of Death’ is based on a story by famed comic book writer Ed Brubaker. It has incredibly high production value and stars:
Zoe Bell – Death Proof, Kill Bill
Lucy Lawless – “Xena: Warrior Princess,” “Battlestar Galactica"
Doug Jones - 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Hellboy
Ted Raimi – Spider-Man, Evil Dead
Jake Abel - The Lovely Bones IMDB
Vail Bloom - "The Young and the Restless"
Brian Poth - "CSI: Miami"
Justin Huen - "Weeds"
The production team evaluated several cameras (I won’t say which ones) but eventually decided on the RED once we showed them how they could achieve the dirty and gritty ‘Grindhouse’ type look they were after.
The movie was written and shot as a feature and then cut up into 10 webisodes but will eventually be recut and issued as a full length feature. Editorial was done in FCP and we graded the ProRes422 HQ files in Apple Color. We gave the production team the graded QuickTimes for conversion to Flash and laid back all 10 episodes to HDCAM-SR for Sony to screen at their place … everyone involved is delighted with the final look.
The individual webisodes are being released this week – one per day.
