Just received an email from Sony with the specs for Vegas Pro 9, which includes support up to 4K and support of Red One Files!

What that REALLY means and how well it all works is yet to been seen, hopefully they have strengthen its stability, Vegas and Vista just can't get along.

i would kill to have the vegas interface on the mac...i will never use windows again.

Excellent news!!! I've been using Vegas since the Sonic Foundry's first version. And it's great that it comes at this point since I'm planning on a Scarlet purchase and that means there's hopefully time to tweak Vegas to work perfect with the files.

I assume Scarlet will be using the same r3d file format?

Received the same email and was incredibly stoked! Have to have the Scarlet and was dreading either having to learn a new NLE or an awful workflow that included a bunch of conversion to get the files into Vegas (which I've used since Sonic Foundry Vegas Video 2.0, haha)

Now gimme a Scarlet fewlzzzz!

I do have to admit... Despite my love for "open source" solutions and Linux.. I am an old die-hard fan of Vegas, and I'm equally excited about this. I just can't stand the operating system that it runs on...

I do still occasionally fire it up for old times sake, but only after I've disconnected myself from any public networks... /conflicker/

I just did the pre-order. $184.95 for the download upgrade from 8 to 9. Not too bad. I just hope the 2K or 4K preview works well, but we'll see. May need a Dual Xeon 5500 and Vista 64 to do it well.

Hmmm.... maybe its time for me to dump Premiere.

??? Premiere has had RED support for a long while now, and it is a very robust, easy to work with interface. Of course, you need CS4 for this to work.

I just went through the pain of learning FCP because I thought Sony would be way late with this. It is a relief to have the option of going back to Vegas.

Yeah and it doesn't support all the RED color spaces. Can't build previews at higher than 1K. Have to exit out of Premiere and reload to make R3D debayer settings take effect... Can't make use of OLPF compensation settings as it can create black frames, etc..

Don't get me wrong, I really like the CS4 RED workflow. But I wouldn't call it a robust solution yet. Definitely a beta with a lot of potential and many of the issues are problems inherent to Premiere and the Adobe tools and not the RED plug-ins themselves.

Vegas audio and gui RULE!

I just hope they don't give us a slower than the rest NLE like it has been for so long... to have any shot at that it needs to run rock solid on Vista 64.

The CS4 red work flow works, but like jeff said, is not robust whatsoever. I switched back over to premiere for red functionality, but since it's introduction almost 5 months ago, nothing new has happened. Still no metadata control is a very big concern for me. It looks like as vegas introduces support for red, they are doing it better than anyone else out there, and yes I'm well aware of cineform. Adobe/red seem to have released the Cs4 workflow to appease the masses, but as soon as they had something that "worked" all development dissapeared all together. I'd even be willing to pay for a CS4/Red plugin update, if thats what it takes. But I'm definitely taking note of Vegas once again.
