I wonder if the other Japanese companies are going to follow with the falling Yen? I read somewhere Nikon just let go alot of staff as well- and Canon was moving from developing high end product to developing cheap consumer product.

Not surprising at all. Starbucks is also closing 600 stores. All the big companies are being hit hard right now. Don't forget that Sony doesn't just make cameras...far from it. I'm sure their camera department is only a small percent of the figures listed, so it probably isn't that bad. I doubt they're laying off any serious heavy hitters in their camera department...
