  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sony & Panasonic Billion Dollar Writeoffs

Sony only dropped the ball by forcing premium prices on their sellers to maintain their image. Sony products didn't even sell well at WalMart because of the higher-prices attached to their HDTVs. They literally are iron-fisted in how they dictate the selling of their merchandise to retailers. Panasonic offered too many TV products and the retailers were not carrying the right ones that people wanted to buy because they already had several other brands filling that demand.

The Koreans now are the Japanese of the 1960's. Amazing little hamlet over there. The cars, electronics, heavy industry, appliances, medical etc etc. They are the team to beat. Arrogance is never a good thing in business. Sony certainly had them some of that.

I love Panasonic.......... My 2006, 720p, 42inch plasma is a tank! Its has passed the I-40 "Beat Down" test. It has logged thousands of miles in our RV getting slammed up and down the road. Sad day...

How 'bout that Olympus? Talk about a clusterfuck

A weak Sony and Panasonic is bad for us consumers. Their products have quality control and are very well engineered. Not talking digital cinema cameras here, but I own much Panasonic stuff, from my washing machine to my 2006 1080i/720p Panasonic 50" Plasma. Still going strong, still giving a great picture and excellent colors, specially when set to "standard". The other manufacturers like Samsung and LG over saturate and over contrast the image even on "vanilla" settings.

Would really be a sad day if we see them go away... I might actually thing about upgrading my Panasonic Plasma now- I fear they're going to stop production of those.

FWIW, my washing machine is a samsung and has worked flawlessly for 10 years now.
OTOH, I had a samsung high end dvd player that bit the dust 3 days after the warranty expired :(

So anyway, I recently replaced my iphone 4 with a samsung galaxy s2, which is awesome btw, and I hope it lasts as long as my washing machine. ;)

In this case the facts also to observe closely is the arrogance of one company to think they could hold off the market, and their relentless Ignorance not to properly invest in time in new technologies,
followed by the yet again arrogant pricing strategies, and negligent to listen more carefully and closely to those then knew better, and then when ahed and try to repair damage by trowing Good money
to Bad business, of course that was clear not to be the right decision, but they did it any ways, and here we are... No one is surprised really...

Love both companies in different products, but I'm sure glad I bought Samsung, which was a decision made cause it is simply the best available in 3D LED TV today, as far as Active Shutter goes...

We are in an ever changing economic world...

These are the TV's that are stuck at 1080P, that was my real point...they're already writing off billions. So are they going to cut bait, or are they going to embrace 4K which would be like the days when my HDW700A cost $89,500 for the body, 25,000 for the 20" CRT, 100,000 for the VTR to playback, and 25,000 for the Canon zoom lens? I.E. high mark up to pay for all the R&D to be an early adopter.

I am so thankful Jim envisioned and executed Red. And I have a feeling he's going to make sure 4K is affordable for all from acquisition to exhibition...only a few more hours!
