The major problem in the theaters is the quality of the 3D presentation. The picture is still too dark for movies as "Harry Potter" or "Pirates." The exhibitor is saving money by not putting the right bulb in the projector and the audience is declining. Look at the percentage of receipts for 3D vs 2D on most movies (especially live action) and you will note the percentage from 3D in way down from the "Avatar" and "Alice" days.
The people will not pay for crap. Once laser projection becomes real and the public finds good 3D the audience demand will increase.
