  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sony Camera

Are you sure they're just re-rating it? I couldn't discern if there was an actual physical upgrade or merely a software one as you're suggesting. It appears that the SRW-9000 will be getting the same upgrade as the F35 sans 12-bit output.

Yes they only re-rated the camera, I went to a seminar/showcase thing at AFI last month and that's what the Sony guys said. It's not even a software upgrade to get the new 800 rating, it's the same exact camera with different labels. They said they "didn't realize how far they could push the camera," this flabbergasted the entire audience since it's obviously been 2yrs since they released the camera and they are just now realizing they can rate it at 800asa and produce great images.

Sony is going 12bit output on the high end stuff, which is cool. But I'm not sure if they will be able to record 12bit internally to HDCAM with their new SR memory cards when those become available. That's what they need to do to stay competitive with Alexa's 12bit ProRes and Epic's higher spec RedCode.

If that's the case, why didn't they make this announcement sooner to take some wind out of Alexa's sales? (pun intended)

That's a good question, not sure, maybe because it's a big corporation? Maybe we'll get a better answer next week at the "unveiling."
