  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sony Announces 4K Consumer Projector

Great to have 4K home projectors, but we need 4K deliverables... dvd's are still sold out there! we need alternatives, we need RedRay, we need it yesterday

Hey Blair... fellow VW-50 owner here as well. Thus far nothing has beein a significant enough jump in capability to make me want to upgrade.

A 4K projector with good contrast at a similar price point would make me think hard though. I'm hoping it's gonna be Red's. :)

This is exciting, but its also what I expected.

There are still people buying their first HDTV's. 720p is still being sold.

4K is definitely coming. I'm excited. It still has a long uphill battle to get into the home and to be the default means of delivery and viewing.

I still think that it will be almost ten years before we have ubiquitous 4K.

As to the question of shooting in 4K vs 1080p ... Well, now with Epic I want to shoot everything in 5K, but realistically for most film makers out there, I'd advise them to shoot on whatever they can - probably 1080p, and to not compromise on lighting and other film making basics.

Put differently ... I'd rather shoot something with all the lighting and support gear I need on 1080p, than shoot Epic 5K and have to give up lots of lighting and support gear.

4K over 1 HDMI cable?!?!

4K over 1 HDMI cable?!?!

Sony VW1000ES sitting on my doorstep. Aimed it at my screen and went to hook it up to my Red Rocket Breakout Box.

Hmmm, there are 8 SDI ports and 4 HDMI ports on the RedRocket BOB. There is one HDMI 1.4a port on the projector. What next?

Is there a way to assign the 4K output to HDMI #1 on the BOB? According to the DVS website the Atomix HDMI variant can do so. Please advise.

Cheers - #19

December actually. It's been a while since I've had some sweet SXRD stuff to buy but there's no reason to even consider this at this point in time since they don't even have a 4K Blu-Ray spec hammered out yet and they will make cheaper models available once that happens.
