I can't believe they went with 4:2:0 for 8K and no 8K RAW output either, definitely a key miss compared to even the Canon R5. I know it's just to preserve the Sony A1 but even that had bonuses for stills enough to warrant the difference in cost, especially as it seems the dynamic range is a little bit lower in the A7RV by comparison on top of that. For the money, spending a little more for a Nikon Z9 with a Sony E adapter sounds like the best all around "Sony" deal for doing everything in one camera.

Yeah, I thought the same about the 8K 4:2:0. But as you said this was never really going to compete with the A1. I guess they thought the 61MPs and the new AI was enough to differentiate it from their other cameras.
