Hey all,
Considering getting myself/family a 4k TV this Christmas, and the Sharp 70 inch THX seems like the best size/performance/value ratio. Especially with holiday sales, could come in around 5k.
The only problem is content. Odemax is fine for pros, but for the wife/family--I'd love to have access to Sony's Video service... except that it appears they are walling off, with no access unless you have their TV and player. Understandable, but kinda sucks.
Just curious, does anyone know what their file format is for their 4k service? Is it conceivable to download from their service and then convert (or ideally just play) with another device onto a TV like the Sharp? The company they are paying a license fee for their compression (eyeio) is here in Palo Alto, maybe I should knock on their door and ask them
I'm sure I will get a RedRay and use Odemax as it matures, but for now, Sony's list of 4k titles (including nearly all of Breaking Bad!) is impressive. I just want something bigger than 65 inch, and am not ready to spend massively on an 84 inch Sony that is 25k now but destined to be 10k in the not so distant future.
The Sharp would be perfect for me now, if only I had access to Sony's content.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Anthony
P.S. -- Wondering if there's not a way to "hack" their player to allow rentals/purchases to be played on other brands' 4k TVs?
Sorry if this is answered elsewhere and so off topic, did my best to post it away from everything else.
