  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sonnet Echo Express III R

Just to clarify, the CUBIX GPU-XPANDER is not supported.

Still working to get the Avid Nitris DX to work as well as ROCKET.

I am sure the ROCKET will work, just one card at a time for testing.

Eric,

Are you saying Cubix doesn't work with RRX? I had it in yesterday, and it was showing to be working at x16 lane and it was playing back 5K R3D material full res without drop frames on the desktop.

CUBIX attached to a Sonnet Echo Express III-R chassis.

CUBIX with ROCKET and ROCKET-X works fine but requires an old Mac Pro.

IC, that is a big challenge lol.

Anyways, the latest update.

My first post in this thread explained the issue EEIII not working with RR. This issue seems to be addressed now with the update of the riser board. While I got the unit quite early, I believe mine has the older riserboard.
Now I have updated TB2 board and RRX seems to work fine mostly with New Mac Pro and the latest MBP retina. When it looses, the displug/plug power cord concept seems to work, but I'm worried to do such thing that it might damage the precious RRX board.

First I installed the RRX in our Mac Pro 2012, fully expanded, with Cubix and Decklink 4k. Mac Pro 2012 recognizes the RRX at x16 PCIe lane. Stunning. Plays back 5K MX R3D in full debayer on RCX on desktop (and probably from the Display port no problem). But when I create 4K projects on Premiere Pro 2014 or Resolve, the performance degrades down to something around 20frames or less.

Now I have the RRX in the EEIII, connected to the New Mac Pro, 4K or native size 5K project on Premiere Pro or Resolve at full frame rate (24p) on desktop. Also, I'm surprised that with Resolve 11, it also outputting 4K via UltraStudio 4k without dropping frame. I have to bring up the system to the room with 4K TV and see how well it really plays back but it is really promising!

Kaku yes please test that 4K on that display and get back to us with results :)

Eric, will do.

I have to thank you for the response from Sonnet. That really helped figuring out the myth.

Nice setup Kaku :)

What speeds are you getting with your Fibre?

Use BMD Disk Speed Utility please.

I tested the Philips and I don't recommend it. I think Dell would be better.
