  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Something Special... ( REDCINE-X )

If a Red Rocket is no longer a 'necessity', I presume this means all the APIs used by 3rd Party software will also benefit from RR GPU acceleration.

If shopping for a new Mac Pro ... $4500 (or even $6750 + the cost of an external enclosure) might be better spent on maxing out the RAM, or towards a large/high speed external RAID.

I guess this is going to hit sales of the RR-X...

Awesome development. Going to make the entire Red workflow that much easier for people to actually try themselves rather than complain about (while not actually having tried to do anything themselves).

Another thought- What does this mean for monochrome footage?
I'm wondering too... edit and playback at higher res would be REALLY nice - not too worried about debayer for some reason :-)

Wow first black magic support in the rcx beta and then gpu acceleration of r3d.

No, at least not officially. There are ways to use CUDA over Thunderbolt by hacking the drivers. Using a graphics card over Thunderbolt for outputting a signal the Thunderbolt just isn't fast enough. It's basically the same speed as a 4x PCI slot. TB2 will be 8x - still not nearly as fast as the 16x that is required to run a graphics card. You may be able to get some CUDA accelleration over Thunderbolt but it probably won't be worth the effort.

So you are saying rocket X in an expansion chassis won't perform well with the new MacPro and thunderbolt 2? What about duel TB2? Is this an option.

Guys,

don't forget that RED already knew about this while developing the RR-X card, so it will not hit sales on the wide end, you must understand that only few here might thing on saving on the RR-X, as most will prefer save time on the desk then the little money on the RR-X, and that is what I said I will also do, and I am not a Pro editor, yet it will bring HUGE advantage to my Post work flow on the R3D for even just the single frames choosing out of a Stream, but especially all the Post companies out there will much prefer to invest what will be in relation such a small amount of RR-X cards, then having their workers spend more time, which will relate to more Hourly cost, and also they care much more about having the fastest workflow then agin saving few bucks in relation to a RR-X card.

Wow! This is big news! Awesome stuff. Badass!

What debayer setting to get 6K to play at 24fps? What is the highest resolution with full debayer in real time? I know it's all preliminary, but would love to know where it's at right now.

Have you guys tested GPU debayer in Mac? Is it CUDA or OpenCL based. Multi-GPU support on Mac? I'm assuming you guys are working on this with Mavericks Developer Preview since Mountain Lion support for Titan kinda sucks right now (no OpenCL).

Jake... You are not just asking a question, you are kinda being a dick. Knock it off. I love your work.. I'm a big fan. You have a ton of talent at what you do, no reason to act like a jackass.

Condescending posts and backhanded compliments are way above you.

There is enough drama going around right now.. so why don't you just chill?

....ha ha ha...Blackstone is INCAPABLE of being anyone but himself....I almost laugh everytime i see his comments....they always come from a dark place....Mr. Grumpy is all i can say.....
