  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Something New....

no priority, just show up in the store some day :)

Sorry if this has been asked before, Can we have a chain of Red convinience stores in Australia?

Just to clarify though, I read that the CF cards could be used on the scarlet. I seem to recall that you will no longer be making them? Am I correct in assuming the scarlet comes with an unsupported media module?

EDIT:
I've found this thread that clarifies.

We are still selling 16GB CF cards and CF modules for R1,Scarlet, Epic, and REDStation.

As they're insanely convenient for media to offload to.

As in - it would be insane to trust a bare notebook hard drive to store your Red footage on, and insane in the sense that if you wanted to use an SSD to back up your Red media you'd basically be at a 1:1 ratio until higher capacity, affordable, and reliable 2.5" SSDs hit the market.

It's always great to think of the future though.

Yo Jarred, is this the new elongated Epic?

Are the SSDs a lot more rugged than CF?

CFs are nice and light, rarely had any problems with them. I guess the issue is data rate & capacity?

Would the 64gig cards have been less wieldy and less capable of capturing at the data rates of SSDs?

Sadly it is a huge increase in base cost. Who's going to want to keep their bundled CF module when it appears pretty much a redundant media in Red terms... it's like shipping the Epic with a free DV tape module :)

Would be nice to see a good deal on upgrading to the SSD module for the Epic-X package...

Might be time to make a chart. Seems like there's still some confusion out there. I'll work on one unless someone already has one done.

Just wondering if you have enough information yet? So far, posts by Jarred have been short and without much detail. Sort of expecting other shoes to drop as they continue the decision making process. (Like many, I'm hoping there can be a free or low-cost default SSD side module on the Epic X if a person buys the 1.8" SSD media before their camera ships.)

But maybe you are just talking about how the options relate to one another in re: acquisition... and maybe you are able to make sense of that.

Regardless, thanks for your willingness to clear up the confusion.

EDIT: After re-reading my post, I just realized that I have introduced confusion over what constitutes confusion.

Not sure why Red would do this, but as they say:
Hope springs eternal
