  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Somebody tell me when...

RED are keeping quiet about the release date for the Scarlet and Epic cameras. People are speculating wildly. Some expect that RED are on track to release their first few cameras within the next few months, others think the cameras wont be out in the wild for another year.
 
I personally find this idea of reseasing the new cams on a county by county basis rediculous. There are hundreds in the US alone!

You might be able to find cheap knockoffs already. Just look for Redd Skarletts next to the iPhoons and KBox 360s. :biggrin5:
 
Hmm... I just had a quick look at RED.com. Tellingly, all the release dates have been removed from the "spec" sheet and the front page of RED.com says "2009" for RedRay and just says "more info" for Scarlet and EPIC.

My guess is that the first of the new cameras wont be available any time soon and that they don't yet have a working ASIC so not even RED know when the cameras will be ready.

I'm glad I bought my GH1!
 
Glad I got the Red 1! Then I'll get Epic, then Scarlet. I have no intention of ever leaving Red!

I don't think Thomson Grass Valley offers a full trade-in for the upcoming Viper 5k which, rumour says, should be available 4 years after the release of the Epic.... :smilielol5:

Yeah, as Jim said, glad I got R1: waiting while shooting!

The release dates were removed weeks ago. Jim has stated the release is delayed a couple of months.

Your guess, is just that, a guess.

Saying you're glad you got your GH1 is a bit like me saying I'm glad I bought a Ford whilst I'm really waiting for a new Ferrari. Two different cameras, different price bracket and different capabilities.
 
just an off topic question...

why does everyone ask when its going to be released?

The specs don't say it anymore so hows anybody here meant to know...
plus Recon is there for a reason...

All true. Don't get me wrong - I'm excited as anyone else about the upcoming RED cameras.
