Hi guys,

This is my first post, hoping not the last ;)

Decided to upgrade my gear and jump to the RED's. For the very start I am looking into Scarlets. Please answer me some questions.. Is it worth to buy second-hand gear? What answers should I know if buying not new? I saw people are mentioning hours of filming.. what else should I know before buying? Does the scarlets change by year? I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, just trying to understand is it worth to buy used, or better not to look at it.

P.S. any owners in Spain who read this?

Thanks for your time, keep in touch!:smash:

Hi Gediminas

I thinks it's pretty safe to buy a second hand Scarlet, however I'd probably buy it with piece of mind using the Red transfer of ownership, link below:

This way Red will check the Camera for you to make sure it's ok, this will also ensure it's not stolen.

With the exception of the new dragon sensors I don't think the cameras have changed physically since they were released . Red however does release new firmware for the Cameras throughout the year and this can see some great improvements on functionality etc. In my opinion the Red GUI has improved dramatically over the couple of years we've been using them.

The other reasonably safe option is to buy from someone on Reduser as you will usually get an honest opinion of people on here, just make sure your not buying a camera from someone who's just signed up to Reduser as I think there has been one or two scammers lurking. But they are very rare around here.

Good Luck

Lastly

Where in Spain are you ?

I'll kick in here, as a previous Scarlet owner ( with red armour) who recently sold using the red transfer system.

On sending to Red for approval for sale they found some issues with some major boards and replaced them free to the new owner ( which was all bit of mystery since I never had a problem with the unit ). Anyway the long and the short of it the buyer basically got a brand new camera for the price of used.

So would def. recommend for used buyers to go this route.

p.s welcome to reduser.

I bought used scarlet, no transfer and the camera has served me well for the last year. Never missed a beat and I save a lot of money....

One more question.

How does the RED upgrade work? Do I have to send camera to RED office and they send me upgraded stuff? If so, is it possible to do that while they are inspecting it on RED transfer?

Yes typically you would send your camera to RED to do an upgrade. And no it can't be done during an inspection. You would contact your Bomb rep to schedule and pay for the upgrade first.
