What does the Floating Point refer to? The highlight values?

Is there a relationship in the processing between ISO and FLUT?

How does it clamp the highlights while moving the middle range around?

Floating point refers to the mathematical precision of the calculations, which in turn allows (along with some other behind the scenes stuff) the ISO to work without clipping.
FLUT Control is fine control over ISO in stops.

That might be the visual effect, but that's not what it's doing.
