Hi everybody,

been shooting with the Monstro the last couple month and beside the large format and everything else this cam offers, the most big
step forward is how the sensor performs color accuracy wise.

Anyway, the most stuff I shot so far was at normal conditions.
So I just took the chance at the Frankfurt Luminale event and checked how it performs in lowlight with very mixed and ugly
street lights, led, and available lighting conditions.

Nothing fancy just me the MONSTRO rigged on a monopod with a 20mm or 50mm Sigma ART Prime walking thru that event.

Edit and basic IPP2 grade in Davinci Resolve, no special look, more on the cool side and for sure there is much more useful information in the shadows.

Shot with the lowlight OLPF in 8K HD with a 5:1 compression (beside one slow-motion in 12:1) and no post noise reduction at all.
The Vimeo upload is a H265 UHD file straight out of Resolve. And I know there is one little render error in that file ;-)

Cheers

Tobi,

Great representation of Monstro's lowlight capabilities!

Thanks guys,

Low-Light is one thing, but I really love how easy and good the Monstro footage handles different and "ugly" lighting scenarios and it "feels" when manipulate in the grading session....

Just another quick and rough done example .....

Hi Tobi,

thanks for posting these examples of monstro at night. Any chance you can post some .r3d's with some people's faces? I'm curious how skin can be corrected in these challenging environments.

Rand you are the man :-)

How does the r3d's "feel" for you !?

The girls at the crosswalk been a quite bad situation, light wise...... looking now great to me, maybe a tiny little bit less magenta ..

Cheers

Tobi ,

you're right about the magenta though, I'm just speeding through them really quick.

A little noise reduction couldn't hurt for this one.

Yeah Rand, less is sometimes more.....;-)

Here is my quick turn on the guy next 2 the trees, by the way is a great example what that Vista Vision Sensor / Look is all about, remember this one was shot with a 20mm Lens .....

You are right, if you push the image like that some NR is OK, but in a real life scenario you wouldn't push the image that much, normal viewers like to have some contrast and dark stuff could be dark.....

Thanks a lot for your samples.
It's nearly unreal how low the iso numbers are and how we see in the night, 1600 iso looks like more 3200 sensitivity..
I'm still strugling with those red lights so that they don't look over saturated. I think in resolve it's easy to unsaturate the red color but in RCX it's clearly an oversaturated red we see. Trying legacy and IPP2, but using RWGammut with a bit of saturation the red is allready popping out.
What are your thoughts on the red color (traffic light and so on)?

Pat

Tobi,

sometimes I get too caught up in revealing too much info .
