Just thought I'd drop a line to say our SolidStore is still in development and will be coming.

We've had a couple of serious hurdles in getting hardware we were happy with, including going right back to basics on a couple of issues, but we think we're pretty close to having everything locked down now. We'll soon get our final costings and announce pricing and availability.

The only major change for us is likely to be dropping Firewire support on our drives. They'll offer native eSATA connection, and we'll make available a USB connectivity option.

Initial units will ship with support for RED CF media, and 'blind' copy of any other CF-stored files. We will then continue to update support for metadata on CF formats (again, RED first). Expandability to support Sony SxS and Panasonic P2 media has been planned for and will follow.

Dimensions of the unit will be approximately 200x110x280mm. Native support for 11-16 VDC power supply with 4-pin XLR DC connection.

Hey Dylan!

Great news, your are the man!

Cheers

Bad idea. It's the standard. Why would you do that?

The main reason is that the multi-interface drive cartridges we were evaluating simply don't perform well enough in native SATA modes. As our main priority is on a speedy and efficient backup process this wasn't acceptable.

eSata is widely available now, and easily added to notebooks and desktop PCs.
We could look at making a docking device available with FW800 support, but we're focused on the unit itself currently.

The power is just from a 4-pin XLR DC connection, so it can be powered from any standard 12V power source. Standard operating voltage is around 11.3 - 16VDC. We could, possibly, include tapped mounting holes for V-lock or AB battery plates I suppose, but that's probably not required generally.

We will ship it with an AC-DC power supply (something like the one you'd get with a laptop) - the battery options will be left up to the end user.
