  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Soderbergh's HAYWIRE Opens Friday

At the theater that I saw this movie at the entire film looked out of focus. I remember even thinking the trailer was out of focus when first viewed a few months back. Am I the only one that think it wasn't focused properly? The open scene was also blown out... many scenes were over exposed. Can't say I like this movie from a technical perspective or even artistic perspective. On the way out of the theater the audience was muttering how they wanted their money back... I can't say I disagree.

There were no focus issues in the projection I saw yesterday.

As for the movie - think of it as a female Jackie Chan film and just put your brain in neutral and enjoy the hot chick kicking ass.

Soderbergh is a hero of mine. The dude jumps from genre to genre better than any filmmaker alive or dead. He can do anything - even if sometimes I don't agree with his choices. He's amazing.

Thanks for posting this Michael, great stuff, especially in a moment like this were we are looking at adding the Resolve
Surface Mac platform and the HAWKs to shoot RAPE of a BEAUTY in Anamorphic,
instead of 3D here in Rome, and your post could have not come at a better time.

On your blog, you have pics of the HAWK v-Plus so I imagine this is what was used, but we were thinking on using the V-Lite with the 1.3X Squeeze,
do you think if oyu do have had the experience to see both, that this format would be preferable on Epic then the 2x Sqeeze?

I also agree with you, that the texture of the Hawks Anamorphic is incredible, and with Resolve can be brought out in a glorious color
finish to truly get the EPIC footage in a new dimension, and love it, for this the testing to get "RAPE of a BEAUTY" shot on it, instead of 3D
as it might be more appropriate to the story and actual body of the film, to have such texture.

Very glad to hear your success on Resolve on the MAC... ;)

I actually posted about what best set up I could build for the Resolve Surface system on a Mac
here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...-Surface-Coming-to-Rome-but-I-need-your-help-)

Thanks again for sharing this.

I just watched Haywire and was amazed at how bad it looked. Opening scene was way over exposed and the sound was bad too. Seemed like the lens or mount were misaligned. Was that just my viewing or is that what everyone else is seeing and hearing.

I had a very similar reaction, Dustin. Parts of the movie looked spectacular, but many scenes just looked poorly executed. Unlike some, I really enjoyed the story and performances, especially Carano's, given that it's her first.

I've become a fan of your blog now!

Was that shot on MX Red One or Epic?

I believe it was shot on Red One MX with anamorphic lenses, according to IMDB.
