  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Social Network...

Just enough :)

How many "normal" RedOne cameras are out there?

Lets say you sold 10.000 units, and half of them wants to upgrade to M-X... what will you do with 5.000 old sensors? Maybe build a RedZero?

No really, how many cams have been sold?
Would be really nice to actually see to what regions the cams whent to...

heh heh sorry.. could'nt resist.

I am however constantly amazed at the international market penetration RED has had.. for some rather unsuspecting countries I have had to check 3 times to make sure it wasn't a typo :)

Considering the value of silicon, I can see some recycling gettin' done at Red headquarters...

Carsten,

They are rated at 20k lumen, but you can reduce brightness. It doesn't have to be pumped up that high.

Yes, but it's a Xenon lamp, and rated at 20/21k lumens, so your options to run them at lower currents are quite limited.

There is only one absolute method to see what camera is better and how they all deal with light, their dynamic range and whatever you want.
Lets put all the cameras in a line, Red, Arri, Sony, Panasonic, Canon, Grundig.
shoot the same still subject at the same time, same angle, same light condition, which means in a studio, and with same aperture, and comparable focal lenghts.
Save single frames and watch them at 100% all on the the SAME best monitor available.
Don't measure but SEE the dynamic range.
Much better than discussing test methods from different planets.

With people who know exposure and post for each camera....

I don't know any DOP here in Switzerland that hasn't worked with a RED ONE.

Hi Pat,
probably 2 film DP's to every Red in CH, shame there are nearer 10 DP's to every pl lens set!

You mean like this? http://www.bscine.com/evaluation09.asp

yes, more or less. But without the distracting blablah. Is it me, or that lady was speaking for 5 minutes always repeating the same things -the day was good, everyone was relaxed, yes, it was a good day - (I couldn't care less about that, could you?) saying nothing.
What's that for, come on, just shoot
The only important thing, which is the results of all the testing, was also the only thing excluded from the reportage. They could have spent 10 seconds for the introduction and the remaing 5 minutes showing the frames from the cameras, instead of showing their tea party. And that's ONLY the British Society of Cinematographers. Imagine if it were 4 farmers invited to try the cameras, instead. They would have probably been interested in the cameras performance, finally. But the cinematographers, oh no, they came to relax and have a good time and enjoy the brotherhood, what the fuck are cameras doing in a movie studio?
Let's awhn, let's... awwhhnnnhh h h n mm mm do a camera .... zzzzzzz.... t.. t..te... s..t....... . . . . .. . . . . . to... mo... rrow... perhaps... but... now...let's ...re....l...a....x.. five... mo...re.... min... ..ut..es...

The way it works is you pay (a small almost token fee) to go to seminars that the BSC hold around the country to view the tests on a big screen and discuss. It takes an entire day as the tests are long and involved.

This link I posted is just a sort of advert for the test.

I heard on the Redcentre podcast in an interview with Sue that they are making a BluRay of the test, so that will be cool.

I love it. I just read about fincher shooting social network on the red. I met fincher at a screening on Ben Buttons and talked to him about the red for about an hour. He was very skeptic at first but after telling him of the experiances with peter hymes and Vilmos Zsigmond he was very interested and wanted to know more about the cameras. With the amount of DI work that went into Ben Buttons i can only imagine that was a major factor in wanting to shoot on the red. The control and ease of post put into his hands perked his intrest the most. Just my two cents.

Exciting times!

anyone at Red working on this?
