Snow Leopard Testing Report Thread

This morning, I received an email from Panasonic that saying P2 drivers are not yet to support Snow Leopard. They will come out with the driver for P2 drive first.

I tested Premiere Pro CS4 version 4.1 with Matrox MXO (2.1.5.2 beta) on Snow Leopard tonight and found that the presentation mode of Matrox MXO works really well comparing to selecting the video hardware in the playback setup.

This presentation mode is going through the GPU, so under app like Premiere Pro, it normally provide better playback rate especially on codecs like R3D and CineForm. MXO uses the second DVI port of the graphic card, so it's the same as having a second display, but it could provide video output from its HDSDI output then connected to professional video monitor with HDSDI input, or use DVI connection to connected to HP DreamColor LCD display (I highly recommend this as a lower cost solution).

So, how I display the footage is to place the program monitor window on to MXO's desktop. Setting down the resolution to 1/4 would give you comfortable frame rate to conduct your editing.

I mentioned about unstable condition on Premiere Pro CS4 with third party video hardware when editing R3D (this will be improved when Adobe comes out with an update), but this solution gives you very stable editing environment with proper color display so you can feel safe to edit the R3D metadata in the source setting.

Maybe it is too early to recommend this solution with confident at this point but worked well during the test to finish short clip shot with build 20.

Cameron,

XDCam does not work at all ?
XDCam 422 and XDCam EX ?
Sony Transfer does not work or see clips?
XDCam L&T plug-in does not function?
QT Wrapped XDCam files cannot be viewed?
All of the above?

Thanks for extra details.

Word from sony is that none of the sony software will work with SL yet. I haven't had the chance to test this yet so I'm just passing along the info.

working on a tv show here that is shooting to P2 cards. my set up is a powerbook networked to my mac pro running snow leopard and although the cards dont like to copy in the Shared computers tab, when i look at the volumes ( control click any drive in the finder and go to enclosing folder) it allows me to copy them just fine. i am also logging them into final cut studio 2 and doing a round trip through color and out to dvd. so.... they seem to be working fine on snow leopard for me.

Ian,

I reported pretty much exactly how Panasonic officially announced about the support of Snow Leopard, but that is good to know there's a way.

Thanks.

Kaku: When you installed Snow Leopard did you install the QT7 player or just leave it as QTX only?

When I installed over 10.5.8, QT7 moved to the Utility folder by itself.

Joseph,

I guess that is Apple manner for treating the legacy apps in Snow Leopard.

Big question for me here:

Does Shake run on 10.6? It's still an important part of my workflow.

Just installed 10.6 (MBP test bed machine) and so far all tests using Shake (4.1) have been fine. I'm sticking with QTX for the mo ...
