  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sneak Peak: New TV Logic EVF

MSRP is on your website...are you selling it for MSRP? And hmmm, it's $1395.

If you call RED do you get a different price then what is on their website?

There is somethng called MAP. Minimum Advertised Price. Everyone is supposed to abide by it. That is what is on the website.

I can tell you that the demand for this product is huge. It works with a lot of other cameras besides REDs. So don't expect to see anyone selling it for less anytime soon.

Hi Mitch, Could you post specs of it's size please? I'd like to know how it will sit alongside a small epic setup. Also how much does it weigh?
Thanks very much,
Paul

What are people B about? It's more than half the price of a bomb EVF, which I don't think is necessarily over priced btw. People have to make a living and there are costs of doing this things and sales no matter what, will never come to the quantity of an iPhone.

Prices on film gear has reduced drastically the last years, but it can only go so far. It's about quantity of sales and lets face it... they will not sell 100,000,000 EVF's yearly LOL.

$1400 for an EVF. Especially if it's really good is to me really cheap, but hey maybe that's just me.

And to be B against Abelcine - what's that all about. They run a business and that includes trying to have the best customer service for you guys and intermediate/ help you in obtaining equipment for what your needs are, which they IMO are doing very well. Are they not to make some money out of that?

Sorry, I don't have the precise specs available. In fact what you can see in my Tweets is a prototype. I had a couple of suggestions which, should Alphatron choose to adopt them, may change the physical specs slightly. But I can tell you that if you are familiar with the viewfinder on the EX-3 then it is in a similar ballpark. The Alphatron panel is a bit bigger so that section of the housing is larger, but they were able to make the eyepiece tube smaller, which I think is pretty sweet. Honestly don't know about the weight, but it is very light.

Fredrik, I appreciate the support but I don't think anyone was really attacking AbelCine. I just was taking the opportunity to explain some business practices. It's funny to me that no one questions that RED's prices are locked, but everyone wants us to discount like we are used car salesmen or working at a Turkish Bazaar (no offense to any Turks here; it's an American saying).

Here's what I can officially state about the LCD panel: It is the same resolution and size as the iPhone 4 Retina Display.Apple had a contractual window of exclusivity on their panel. I don't know the date that window ends but I can guess. Expect to see the Alphatron EVF around NAB.

Sorry should have put a few smileys in my post. I wasn't that serious.

I'm just a little amazed that more people are not raving about the price. If this one is good, the price is a big leap. IMO.

Bargaining unfortunately comes with the territory - how about reinventing the wheel? Another reduser bulk buy? LOL

(can maybe save people a few $ lol)

Hey Fredrik

+1 on your 1st post... It constantly amazes me that so many guys on this list will endlessly post what amounts to price fixing in there own markets (from a selling servies and renting kit pov) but want to buy kit at prices that could stall dev and markets.

Price looks great... if you can easlily focus off it it will sell loads. I do also think there is a market for a higher end VF. Maybe a OLED device with great opticss. I would like a bit more bite in my VF.

RE VF in general. I played with a F65 the other day and was slighlty impressed. It has been a while since if have looked through a a Sony VF. Also Panavision have a new Electronic VF? Anyone seen it?

Mitch,
My question was only such because your site lists it as MSRP....Manufacturers SUGGESTED Retail Price, of which few people actually charge that. So when I see MSRP I see 'the high price we wont actually charge you'. I guess I was wrong, but that's my perception. I surely was not bitching, just confused. I look forward to reading reviews on the EVF and hopefully checking it out at NAB

I was wondering if I am alone with the idea that it would be cool to have an EVF attachment for the smallHD DP6 like the DP4. Their sales rep said if enough filmmakers were interested in the idea they would consider developing such. I can't afford the Bomb but using a small monitor with decent resolution would be great

I think it would be too big. The EVF attachment would need to be a lot bigger than the EVF attachment on the DP4. It would just be way too bulky. The DP4 EVF attachment already makes it a little too big.

You can order now from us, including on our website. Shipping soon, likely shortly after NAB.

It uses the same cable as the small TV Logic monitors, the TVL-VFM-CBL-DTAP.

I've asked that it be put up on our website to order alongside the EVF, but in the meantime anyone can contact us directly to order one.

Do we have any idea about the power consumption on these? How long does one NP-F970 power the EVF?

Got an email not too long ago apologizing for the delay and informing me that they would be coming in soon... but I'm seriously starting to consider other options.

Just received one unit.
Compared to the RED Bomb EVF OLED the resolution is visibly lower and there is quite a bit of "motion Blur" or image retention.
It's also quite large physically. Compared to the Zacuto and cineroid, my impression is that its berrter with less latency.
The finder image is a tad too large for my taste. It makes it harder to scan all the image edges, and can give a tad motion sickness...
