  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SmallHD DP7 Pro monitor

I'm pretty interested in this, but after hearing about the three under $2000 DP7 Pro versions that will be coming out this fall, I think I may hold off to see what features are being cut to reach that price point (or if an OLED version will even be one of these cheaper ones). Since the email I got said that details won't be forthcoming until this fall, I'm kind of stuck on what to do. Do I pre-order the 7" OLED now to lock in the free extras and run the risk that it ships before the details on the alternatives come out, or do I wait and only order much later if the lower cost versions don't interest me (I'd lose out on the pre-order freebies). As much as I like the $2700 DP7 Pro OLED, it does way more than I would likely need it to and the $700 costs savings on the cheaper versions would pay for a big chunk of the Paralinx Arrow I'd love to get as well.

Kyle,
Sorry for creating so much uncertainty. When we begin shipping the DP7-PRO OLED we will also begin taking pre-orders for the under <$2k monitors. You are not locked in with your existing pre-order. You will be able apply the pre-order to the new models if you choose. We will be as flexible as possible. We wanted to make sure everyone had the best information possible before having to make a final decision.

However the sub $2k OLED will not include the X-Port which provides the seamless integration with the Paralinx Arrow. As for software features, we will be very competitive with existing monitors in this price range. We do intend to sell advanced software packages as add-ons for these lower cost monitors. All of the advanced software will be included at no charge for the higher priced models.

What makes the DP7 so exciting to us is the flexible software architecture combined with a powerful processor. Our customer surveys have exposed a long list of time and agony saving software utilities that do not exist on any monitor today. As a result we have tripled the size of our software R&D staff. We hope to introduce a substantial new software tool every month so. Our goal is to make the DP7 the most future proofed monitor ever built. I guess time will tell. ALL models will be able to run all of the software.

Since everything we do gets copied, we could not reveal too much too soon. Sorry for that. We will do the best we can.

Hey Lee,
Also, these are by far the least expensive true HD monitors in their class (1000nit and OLED).

Agreed, I wasn't suggesting that they weren't a good value, only that I'd expected you to target a different market segment (the one you're hitting with the simple sub-$2k version).

I've had a ton of fun doing your surveys, really glad you did that, and I'm really excited for the announcement of the sub-$2k monitor. I will definitely be buying one :)
