Has anyone been able to make the new SmallHD DP6 monitor display Red menus when using HDMI?

I know the monitor just came out last week so perhaps no one else has tried, but if you have it working please let me know.

Here is what I have tried:

Tested with a Red One MX (Build 30.5.0) plugged into HDMI. I can see an image when Red's menu System - Monitor - Preview is set to Video(720p), but when I change it to Menus(DVI) the DP6 screen goes black and shows:

HDMI
1280x848 60Hz

I have tried it with image flip both on and off.

Tried changing Red's System - Monitor - PVW REFRESH from 59.94 to 50 Hz.

I have also tried:
-a different Red One (same build)

-Different HDMI cable (2 feet, good quality)

-Booting the Red One with the HDMI DP6 monitor attached and powered on.

-Unplugging EVF and Red LCD from camera.

The folks at SmallHD had Red menus working on one of their prototypes at NAB and are working with me to solve the issue. They even sent me custom monitor firmware to try. They seem to be a great little company and have so far given me excellent support.

The DP6 monitor is truly amazing, it is like a 6-inch iPhone 4 screen. Tack sharp, good peaking function for focusing, intelligent menus and lots of control.

I've had no luck with this as well. Will try the support site.

Why are you not using the HDSDI?

What is the advantage to using the HDMI?

Of course HD-SDI works perfectly! but the point is to use hdmi in order to see the menus or in a pinch replace the red lcd.

I opened a ticket and got a very prompt response, promising a firmware fix over the next couple days.

Could you post your request on our Support Form? It helps us serve you much better.

Since we don't have easy access to a Red, firmware testing has been a challenge. We are getting that under control. We really want to provide excellent support for the Red community. As you may know the Red HDMI signal is totally non-standard. It is really a modified DVI PC signal with an HDMI plug. We will have a specific Red section in our FAQ very soon. Maybe by tomorrow, so please check back.

This was just posted on SmallHD's Red FAQ:

"In it's normal configuration the image on the DP6 is Flipped. The DP6 cannot efficiently process the Red's non-standard HDMI signal in this configuration.
For best results, Turn Image Flip OFF, Menu Flip ON and mount the DP6 upside down.
This will put the menu controls in the lower left corner of the DP6.
"

That means the HDMI plug would now be at the TOP of the monitor. Yikes.

I hope this is a temporary solution.

Hey Reed, quick question-

Are there any plans to release a Nikon battery plate for the DP6?

No, this is not temporary. Is the primary concern the placement of the HDMI connector?

Yes. If we have to use the monitor upside-down on the Red, it means the HDMI cable will be sticking up in the air. Since these cables are usually quite stiff, I can see this being an inconvenience which might lead to connector damage.

Conversely, I have already bragged to people how perfect the placement of the HDMI connection is when using my DP6 on Canon DSLRs. Maybe I'm just never happy! :-)

I have ordered one of these to allow me to move the HDMI connection wherever I want (and to save wear and tear on the DP6's connector). I think it will be a good solution:

This dual plug version is the only short HDMI extension I could find. If anyone knows a source for a single extension 12" long or less please let me know.
