  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Small mic for scratch audio (3.5mm)

Just to clarify, the Cinema Oxide Scratch Trax microphone is an Olympus ME-52 with the silver grill painted red :) It's been discontinued for a while now.

I've been using the ME-52 for several years and while I can't stress it enough that it is definitely only for scratch track recording, it does work well with the DSMC.

Thanks Alexander, updated.

Got one of these and one of those small shotgun shaped sony electret condenser mics, and I wholly agree they are unusable for anything but reference audio. I am curious though if I'm missing a setting somewhere. Set to unbalanced (right? I'm not a sound guy..) I end up having to max out the pre-amps and even then it's a gamble whether I'll be able to hear something more than 10 feet in front of me.

I'd like to know the exactly settings for these little mics.

Phantom Power ON/OFF?
Balanced/Unbalanced?

Anything else?

I'll have mine next week and will post back if someone doesn't answer first.

Yep, that's definitely my experience. Phantom On, Unbalanced, and high gain... (depending on noise environment of course) at least it's better than having zero audio reference!

yeah, zero audio sucks. I sometimes just like to talk to myself when shooting tests as reference too.
